For several weeks I have been deciding which tractor I “need.” Based on my needs assessment, I think a BX would do just fine. My local dealer is a jerk and, besides over-pricing all his stuff, does not allow any home demos. I can drive the tractor around his lot but there’s no dirt to move or any other way to get a feel for the tractor. Anyway, I was browsing through the photos section of this site and saw a picture of a guy on his BX. I won’t draw attention to the specific picture, but this guy looked like a gorilla on a go-cart. His back is all hunched over and spilling over both sides of the seat and his knees are up in his chest. You get the idea. I’m a fairly big guy myself (6’1” and 270 lbs). This looks very uncomfortable. Are there any big guys out there with BX’s? Is this tractor comfortable for 2+ hours of continuous use for a big guy? I notice the brochure has a lot of pictures of a lady on the tractor, so is this basically a “woman’s tractor” (OK, ignite the flame throwers)

Big Guy--

I am 5' 11" and 250 pounds with a BX1800. The only complaint I have is that I wish the seat could slide back a whisker more. I have it all the way back and my knees aren't all cramped up. The wife says I don't look like a gorilla on a go-cart! I don't feel like one either! I've been on it numerous times over 2 hours and have been very comfortable.

I guess I'm a "big guy" too, 6'0" and about 240 or so:) I've only got 12 hours on it so far, but two outings were in the 2+ hour range. One thing I noticed is my back was a little tired afterwards, but then I can't sit in a car for more than an hour without bothering my back. A little more adjustment in the seat would be nice, but no problem with leg room. My guess is you wouldn't have any problems.

Hey guys I have a BX too and being 6' I also needed a skosh more legroom for comfort. I was looking close at the seat adjustment right after I got my machine for a way to make a modification when I noticed that there were a couple of more notches in the seat track for the lock to catch even though the seat was all the way back. If you look on the right hand side of the seat track right above the suspension spring you will see a 'L' shaped piece of metal welded on the seat rail as a stop. Just put a crecent wrench on this and bend it outward slightly and you will get and extra inch of seat movement. For me this is all I needed. You may need to be aware of this in the future so the seat isn't moved too far back and out of the track but in my case I never need to readjust the seat anyway.

Stephen,
Thank's for the tip on getting a little extra leg room.
When I first got mine I thought I needed to have the seat back further but after using it my biggest problem is catching the steering wheel with my legs when getting on or off. I too am a pretty big guy a little over 6' and 250 lbs.
A little extra leg room would not hurt but comfort has not been an issue. I feel like I am on a "tractor".

This was one of the two items that finally made me not get the BX2200. I found that as the seat was pushed back it also went higher. This is opposite of what you would normally see in a car where if you were taller and needed the seat back further you would also want to go lower to keep your relationship to the steering wheel the same. I believe it is necessary on the BX due to the fuel tank being under the seat. My problem is that I have a lot of back problems and found that with the seat all the way back I was having to slouch a bit to reach the wheel comfortably. Anyway, I was worried this would lead to driver fatigue after a bit of seat time and decided not to chance it.

I have the BX2200 with a Curtis cab on it. I'm 6'4" and 270 lbs. with a size 14 shoe. I have used the tractor at times for 3 to 4 hours straight and have not felt cramped when I got off. I also have a back problem but the tractor does not bother me but then again everyone is different.

That was one of the reasons I did not get the BX. The steering wheel was between my knees. It felt uncomfortable. I am 6' & 200 pounds with long legs and size 13 feet.

Other than that, it seemed to be a very capable machine with a strong reputation for performance and quality. It was my second choice.

You know, about 2 years ago I think this same post question was asked by another Bigguy, am I loosing my memory? The analogy was the very same? Oh well, you guys are a bunch of big guys. Is anyone normal sized anymore, like 5'10, 5'11, 6'0 and 160-200lbs. Y'all must really rate on your insurance premiums. The other Biguy said he had more room on the JD455, well maybe but I do know that the seating room is very similar on the BX, 7500 and 2410. The 2410 sits you a bit higher in relation to the floor board and there is a bit more dish on the steering wheel. Yes, the seats get higher as you push them back. One odd thing, I could stand up between the seat and the steering wheel on the BX to look over the hood, I find that somewhat difficult on the 2410, there is actually more foot room on the BX but my legs are more bent, I use both the BX and the 2410 on the second from last position, I am 5'11 and 185 (maybe a skosh more) /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif . I think it would be possible to install the 2410 wheel or a spacer under the BX steering wheel. Frankly, compared to my neighbors 455 which I have some seat time in the BX is quite roomy. I think to improve substantially on the BX seating room you would need to move up to the 2710, which is slightly more room than the 2410, the difference being a bit more leg room it seems. Well, good luck.

Most guys would consider this a nice tractor and since the average guy does not have a 2410 or a BX or a L3410 how do they fit on these things--come to think of it--I used to fit just fine on one smaller than this. Maybe we are alll still growing.
