Any \"Carpet farmers\" here?????

I started my life-long affair with tractors at an early age. I grew up on a farm. We lived about a quarter mile from a BIGTIME John Deere dealer. I started collecting 1/16th scale farm toys at around age 6. Over the years, I've added many more to the collection. Every few years, I go through abd cull out the less desirables, and make room for more "collector quality" toys. At this date, I have 348 toy tractors. (All but three are John Deere) Also, there's 151 toy implements. (Victory in numbers!!! I have so many that the wife doesn't even notice when I add a few more!)

Does anyone else here on TBN collect die cast tractors?

Re: Any \"Carpet farmers\" here?????

I have a few farm toys including a nice JD8320 right here at my office.

Do you remember the Tru-Scale line from the '60s? A friend from way back had some of those and I was hooked but my parents didn't seem to catch on.

My dad bought an IH Scout so I did get the Tru-Scale Scout model. Loved that thing and literally drove it into the ground. I've since replaced it at quite a cost but it looks nice on my Scout shelf.

Somewhere along the way I got hooked on 1:50 scale construction though. Specifically cranes and backhoes. I have several dozen of each. They're smaller so they don't take as much space but sure are pricey.

Got pictures of your collection? Sounds pretty impressive /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm working (unsuccessfully, I might add) on posting pictures on here. I'll get that under control soon though.

That Scout is worth BANK! There's a couple versions that are REAL VALUABLE. (I think one is the "Terra Scout")

I have a good many True Scale implements.

There's a dealer who frequents many of the toy shows I attend that sells those 1/50th scale construction toys. Impressive to say the very least!

OK, so where do I find out how much these models are worth? I am going to an auction in a few weeks and I noticed that they had some models for sale. I am more interested in the tractor stuff, trailers and cast iron pots but now I learn on TBN that the toys could be worth dollars? LOL! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I show up at home with a bunch of "toys" the CFO will have my hide tacked to a tree! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ebay! Look at sold items similar to what you are interested in. That will give you an idea of the market price. Also remember that with any collectible, condition is everything.

I had a Tru-Scale Scout toy as a kid (mid '60s). Brochure shows original selling price of $3.95. I bought a nice, but well used replacement a couple of years ago for $250. I've seen new, in the box versions of the same thing sell for over $1200. Condition is everything!

There are also price books available. Probably get those on Ebay too /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you have a Tractor Supply Store near you. look in their books/periodical section. There are several books on the market that are essentially price guides on the various (mostly Ertl) die cast farm toys. They aren't "carved in stone" prices, but they'll get you in the ballpark.

There's a few older toys, and a few newer ones that are worth MANY PESOS... I've got about a dozen or so worth well over a grand each. FOR A TOY.................... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Any \"Carpet farmers\" here?????

Go to www.toytractorshow.com and you will learn a lot about toy tractors. There are a couple price guides (real guides not the ones you see in TSC) They list all the tractors made by scale and are updated every year. Ebay is not a good place to find out what a toy is worth as they sell for a lot more on ebay then at live auctions. The two price guides are Nolt's and Dick's price guide. One deals with all scales and the other is mostly 1/16 and pedals. Kate Bossen is one of the many who keep track of the auction results and constantly updates the price guide.

So yes I do collect toy tractors /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif as well as toy trucks and 1/50 and 1/32 construction. I have no idea how many models I have any more. I collect all scales of farm models and I ran out of room a long time ago so now I just keep stacking them up till I get a bigger display room.
