I been kinda tooling along for years -- ever since the Compuserve days ordering premium coffee over the net (no pictures just text in those days) and have tried dozens of brewing options.

Well, compared to Folgers that gags me I was making some pretty fair coffee.

Now this dude on another BB I frequent gets me going on the new state of the art...

Blew $300 on a coffee press, a new grinder and a roaster and can't wait for it all to arrive.

Anybody else nuts out there? LOL

I tried just about all the brewed coffee in my area plus from Cool Bean,Vermont Coffee etc..even the wild name ones..French Vanilla to Peanutbutter brewed coffee./w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif
Number 1 brew coffee would be from Vermont /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
Number 1 instant coffee would be Maxwell House./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Two great tastes that should realy be apart.

You sound like a connoisseur, I on the other hand am just a coffeeholic.

Yes, I drink coffee at all hours of the day. It doesn't matter what kind of coffee, gas station coffee, thick black ooze that has been on the burner for 8 hours, fourty weight, even the bottomless cup served at a greasy spoon where the pot hasen't been washed all year and the waitress wears polyester and calls you "hon" :)

I wish I were an obsessed coffee drinker /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Instead, I'm an obsessed caffiene addict who doesn't care for the taste of coffee. Instead it's 3-4 cans of diet Pepsi or diet Mountain Dew a day. I've even gotten to the point where I drink it at room temperature so I can bring a case into work and not have to run down the hall to a fridge. First can is usually empty by 7:00 am. Any tips on converting me to coffee /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Dan -- Coffee got me through grad school, so it's been my drug of choice for years. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif For the last few years I've been a geek supporting the production side of a gourmet coffee roaster in Vermont. As a result, I have access to all the premium Arabica beans I want, as well as a coffee lab and both mini- and micro-roasters. So for me it's no big deal to come up with a custom blend (light roast of Organic Peruvian High Grown with the inherent sugars just barely carmelized mixed with a darker roast of Kenyan AA or ..?)

Yes, coffee is an important part of my life! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Peanut butter coffee reminds me of my sister in laws obsession....Garlic. She managed to find a place that made garlic ice cream....yech!/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

My coffee of choice is Tasters Choice hazelnut instant with some hazelnut fat free creamer to sweeten it up a bit. Not really in love with coffee so much as I like something warm in the morning. I put one of those instant hot water thingys in and it couldn't be easier(lazy).

Ack!! Diet Pepsi or Diet Mountain Dew.... no redeeming value in anything that's diet. Live large - go for the high test.

As far as coffee, I brew my 48 oz of usually 8 O'Clock French or Columbian Roast when I get up. Then I'm done for the day.
Occassionally have a cup when having dinner out.

As far as the specialty brews, I like Hazelnut or Vanilla. That with either half and half or heavy creme.... yum!!!

Now I have to ask a question, what is a coffee press? A roaster I can understand, but a coffee press??!!??

Another pressing question - cups. Personnaly, I like the mega cup size. Holds around 12 - 14oz. Those puny dinner tea cups - may as well be a demitasse (sp?) cup. There is one member whose cup size is legendary.... no response necessary /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

Well, I don't know if I'd go as far as you, but I do seem to have some distinct preferences when it comes to coffee. First, I like it black, blacker'n coal. None of that wimpy cream/suger stuff. Second, it better be strong. Mom taught me to add a scoop for each cup, then one for the pot, then one for good luck.

I like either French roast, espresso roast, Viena roast, and such. The darker the better.

I usually brew it up in the dripper, but I enjoy putting a round or two through our Vesuviana espresso maker now and then.

I am the only coffee drinker in the house,I have a Black and Decker coffee maker that I do not use because the coffee goes flat before I can drink it all.So I use Folgers or Maxwell House singles dipped in boiling spring water.I am working on the 4th cup today. I used to make "Hobo Coffee" just boil water in a pan and throw the grounds in on top of the boiling water, good stuff, then you can spend the rest of the day picking a few coffee grounds out of your teeth./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Pete in VT,

Sorry to but in here, but you may know the answer for me...

I'm also a coffee addict, and, my drug of choice had been Turkish Blend Organic from Frontier in Iowa. As you know. Green Mtn bought out Frontier coffees. Ever since, I can't get Frontier to ship any Turkish Blend Organicl They say it is OS.

My second choice is Green Mountain's Kenya AA which I buy at a coffee shop down from my office --- but I wish it was organic.

Does Green Mtn have the Turkish Blend OR Kenya AA in ORGANIC only (don't care for the formaldehyde). If so, where do I order from????? That Turkish Blend is rich, dark and roasted, almost like black mud --- YUMMMMMM. Please help me if you can. I will order in 5-10 pound bags...

Well I must admit I am surprised at the responses I'm seeing. Who would have thought that that brawny guy on the big tractor knocking down trees would have a Grande Triple Cappucino Extra Foam Apricot Latte in their Chalkley cup??!! I guess you never know. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Me? I like regular old coffee, any brand, with too much cream and sugar. I now find myself experiencing fresh roast envy.

Bob -- I'll check on specifics Monday when I'm back at work. This is an odd time in the world of coffee roasting as it's the end of the season, so much of the green has been sitting in a warehouse for quite some time. We're pretty picky about our beans, so tend to let something go OOS rather than settle on dry, flat coffee. Plus, with Vietnam flooding the market with inferior Robusta beans, the price drop has driven many farmers out of business. We're investing heavily in those who grow for us right now, trying to keep them going. In exchange for paying them well above the market price, we're developing a lot of infrastructure for them. Not just pulpers and drying patios, but schools, clinics and even housing. (We even sponsor visits so the farmers in coffee-growing regions can see our facilities and way of life; you haven't seen happiness till you've seen some Costa Rican farmer try to catch his first snowflake!) In return, we insist they use no pesticides, herbicides, keep their kids in school, etc. Look for more organics in our line over the next several years; it takes a few years of organic practices to earn the right to call a coffee "organic." Will the Frontier line change? Yes, for reasons of both availability and because our standards, i.e., pull your kids out of school to pick and you won't do business with us. Will the Frontier and Green Mountain lines improve? Absolutely! You wouldn't believe some of the blends we're playing with now! In fact, if you see High Andes Blend on your store shelf, buy it! It just went into production so I'm not sure how long it'll take to distribute, but it's both Organic and Fair Trade...and quite simply one of the best coffees I've ever had.

There's no formaldehyde used to process our caffeinated or Swiss Water Process decaffeinated coffees. In water-rich areas they use water to separate the bean from the cherry, then sunlight or in some cases low-heat dryers to prepare them for the market. In dry regions, like Kenya, they use sunlight and mechanical aggitation to get the beans. In the old days, the wet process was called "washed" and the dry process was called "unwashed," but as you can imagine it was difficult to market unwashed coffee, so now they call it "natural" processing. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

By the way, for those of you looking for coffee with the max buzz power, the darker the roast the less caffeine. So if you use coffee to jump start your day, try a lighter roast.
