Is there an easy way to lift a heavy 5 gallon diesel jug up to fill the gas tank? Any way to prevent spillage? I'm about to fill up my MF 1531 for the first time.
Thanks alot.

I just drive mine to the local station, but it is only a few blocks away. If working away from a pump, I just stand on the front axle and pour it in, but each tractor fuel location is different. Some people have invested in pumps, electric or manual, while others have storage tanks that are elevated above ground to allow gravity to do the work. Consider buying 5 gallons in two different cans, so you only have to pick up two and a half gallons of weight at a time.

Around here we call it a fuel tank or diesel tank :)
If your hood is flat get one of those little siphon tubes w/ a starter ball. Set the fuel container on the hoof and let it drain.

I drive 4 miles to the fuel station....However, in a pinch I just man-handle the 5Gallon jug! I Have one of those "vented" fuel jugs. P.O.S. is what they are. So, I drilled a big hole at the top to create a much larger vent, so it don't take soooo long to empty the 5 gallons of fuel. I temp. plug that hole with a cork during transport.

I rigged up a "stand" to put the 5 gallon container on. The container has a long clear plastic tube that I can push into the filler hole. I can then just tip the container and fill the tank.

I'm getting a little more creative in my old age.

I have a large filtered funnel from TSC that has a higher side as a backsplash. Makes it easier to empty a 5 gallon jug without spilling.

Just fill a second smaller container with fuel and use that one to fill the tank. It's much easier and really doesn't take all that much longer.

I use a 5 gal kerosene container and a kerosene siphon that you might us to fill one of those small kerosene heaters. I set the container on the top of the fuel tank on the tractor and insert the siphon in it and the other end into the fill hole on the tank. The siphon has a built in pump to get the fuel started and has an air bleed to stop the flow when the tank starts to ge full. It works great and because you can break the siphon with the air bleed there is almost no spillage. I might spill a few drops when I pull the end from the tank. If I am very careful I will not spill any fuel. Cost for the siphon about $10.00.

Ditto on the funnel idea. I stand on the tire and pour, it's easier with my tractor. Not sure on the massey if that would help or not.

I recently got a small transfer pump that you put on a drill. I have not tried it yet as I forgot about it until this thread popped up. I will give a review shortly.

Wedge, I think I know what you are thinking, lets see how long.
