Oil & Fuel any easy way to get gas in the tank?

I bet I've pumped 1000 gallons of fuel through my Han-D Pump. If it dies tomorrow, I'll be at TSC buying another one. Bang for the buck and easiness to use, I don't think you can beat it.

Check out the "Auto Shut-Off Spout" that Lee Valley sells. I have one and it works great. You put it on your own fuel can and you couldn't spill fuel if you tried.
It will only start to flow when the nozzle is inserted into the tank you are filling. It even shuts off when the tank is full or when you lift the fuel can. It's strong enough to support the weight of the can while it is draining. Because it closes it's self, it can be left on the can in between uses.
It's even self venting so no problem with the EPA. I have no other experience with self venting cans, but this spout works fine.

I have one of those on my little 1 gallon + can I use on my Echo. It is better than some of the other self venting/no spill. But in my opinion it is still crap, still end up spilling more than I did with my old can with the spout on it. I wouldn't want a 5 gallon can with it for sure.

I haven't tried this and the safety police said it wouldn't be wise, but I have thought about using a high performance fuel pump and some hose. I figure if I keep the pump and switch 5' or 6' apart from the tank it should minimize the risk of fire.

I don't think it's suited for small cans and tiny tanks because it will stop an inch short of full. Then it would take two hands to defeat the spout and get that last inch of fuel in the tank and on the ground.
If that's not what you are doing then I think you must have something else that looks the same. This spout will not spill a drop.

I still recommend a Kentucky Credit Card - any clear hose of sufficient diameter and about 6' long or more. Or get it with a bulb to start it.

I strongly advise AGAINST pouring if you have the slightest hesitation due to weight, location, or phase of the moon.

Last year on a training mission I had three female soldiers attempting to pour a 5 gallon can of diesel into a generator at about shoulder height. They insisted they could do it. They spilled about a gallon on themselves and the (cold) generator.

Hard, smelly way to clean the equipment and waterproof your clothes.

not sure of the relationship of your gas cap to the surface around it, ie if there's a large enough area around the filler opening to rest this 5 gallon tank on but this is what i use to fuel an aircraft with a high wing - i have to use a step ladder to get up there and once there, i just lay the tank on it's side and turn the spout. saves me from having to hold it, the weight rests on the wing top, or in your case the hood or fender

these jugs weren't advertised for use with gas but i tested one for six months just leaving a gallon of gas in one - didn't see any plastic deterioration or embrittlement - have used about six of them now for just over 10 years and still using the same tanks.
the spout is pretty easy, 1/4 turn is full open and mine are about 3/4" ID on the spout so the tank empties fairly quickly - the jugs are about $6 and the spouts were about $5

the jug in the upper left corner is the one i'm referring to - it isn't the very one but almost the identical set up
