I have a question on ground wire for pump motor. The ground would go through the ground fault breaker? Then the breaker would go to ground? That's the way my pool has been wired for 15 years. Of course, pushng the test button trips the breaker, so I believe it's hooked right. The motor is mounted on a wood base. Now the question: If I take a piece of wire and run the wire from metal motor case to the actual ground the breaker kicks off. Now I'm sticking the wire into the earth at the pump not running to a ground breaker. If I douse the motor with water it shuts down, even though i don't think the water touches the actual electric. There is an internal ground that goes to breaker. One other thing, I have heard that a ground doesn't have to be hooked up to protect through ground fault. It is the voltage change that trips the breaker. I wondered about that too.
