since this thread has gone to the warranty dogs here is your typical 2007 gm light duty gas burner warranty
3 years/36k bumper to bumper
6 years/100k sheet metal rust through
8 years / 80k cat converter and pcm
5 years / 100k powertrain
3 years / 36k federal emissions
same goes for diesel trucks until medium duty (5500 and up) 2 years unlimited miles bumper to bumper on those

I am not arguing the point that the GM powertrain warranty is longer. It is. I am not arguing the point that I would--like most others--prefer to have a better powertrain warranty than body warranty. But, body warranty is important, especially in such expensive vehicles as these. My point is that we must collectively be careful when saying due to one aspect of a larger item is better, then the whole thing is better. This I do not believe to be true. While I do not live in the north, my neighborhood gets a fair amount of snow and they salt it to death. Corrosion is a major issue on vehicles here due to this and I have seen vehicles that still have many miles left on them that are rusted significantly. Is it as important as a good powertrain warranty?? Probably not, but must be considered when reviewing the integrity of any warranty.

Here is the Ford corrosion warranty. It is 5 years/unlimited mileage (whichever comes first)2008 Ford F-350 Warranty | New 2008 F-350 Factory Warranty Program

The GM corrosion warranty is 6 years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first)

John M, I submit to you that I think the GM warranty might actually be better since it lasts for 6 years which is a year longer than Ford's 5 year warranty?

Although the Ford mileage warranty is unlimited, won't most owners find that 5 years will go by before the 100K or 6 year limit that GM offers? Wont most owners find 5 years goes by before rust holes appear in their sheetmetal?

I think the GM corrosion warranty works better for 95% of the US population since it's 6 years long versus Ford's 5 year warranty which only works for folks who put a ton of mileage on their vehicle very quickly. Basically it would work for the scant few who put 20K & more miles per year on their truck AND live in some kind of unholy enviroment where holes appear through sheetmetal in 5 years or less. Both of those combined are a highly unlikely scenario.

So, Builder, if I understand you correctly, a longer warranty is better than a shorter warranty? Interesting.

Big news here is that one of the 2 Ford dealers is getting yanked "voluntarily" by ford. Seems there are too many dealers and not enough vehicles being moved. This is reported to be a national program. Like I said a hundred posts ago, When Toyota starts selling 3/4 and 1 ton's with diesel engines, it's gonna get interesting...

Builder,

I see your point. I truly see you have turned and now probably are beyond saving back to the blue oval. Seriously, you are correct for the soccer mom who drives 5,000 miles a year the GM warranty is competitive here. For those who use their HD trucks a lot in unfriendly environs, I would take the mileage. After all, these trucks in most cases should be spending a lot of time on the road. John Bud, I do not see your point. I have already stated to Builder I agree with him on the powertrain warranty. I think GM has the better one. I hope that Ford matches it, which it seems like it will do this year.

Well, I'm no soccer mom, but with a little common sense math, driving under 16,666 mi/yr would be the break even point for the corrosion warranty, not 5,000 miles. I think you were being a little haughty, if not disingenuous there. I run about 15,000/yr and since my truck isn't one of the handfull used in a salt mine or doubling as an undersea work truck somewhere in one of our great oceans, I'll huddle with the masses and take the superior overall warranty offered by GM.

Couple that with all the other superiorities offerd by GM in the 4500/5500 4x4 over the F450/500 4x4 and it's pretty much game, set & match in favor of GM. ;)

Geez Builder....you mean this ISN'T your truck...:D

Builder,

I am neither haughty nor disingenuous. I take that assessment as offensive.

One other thing I dislike about the 450/550:

No exhaust brake. Why would GM offer one on the 4500/5500 and Dodge offer one on their 3500, yet ford doesn't offer one?
