Any "GOOD" satellite TV company out there?

massy, One of the digital channels is 24 hour fox news, from the local (60+ miles away) Fox channel. Don't know if it is the same as the national, as I don't give Fox news a hoot. Too many commercials, and to much drama.

and besides, if I did not put the dish high up on the house, I would have no reason to put someone in my bucket and raise them up to clean it off....and maybe have some fun / funny photos or video.

I had them put ours on the old aerial antenna tower. They didn't want to... said the tower would sway (we do get some pretty good wind) and we would lose signal. But I didn't want it on the ground or screwed to the roof either. Never had a problem with losing signal, except during those Ohio monsoons.
Aerial is a waste for us though, we would only get 3 digital channels according to dtv.gov.

We have had DirectTV for 6 years. No complaints so far. I had to replace a defective remote 2 years ago and received one by FEDEX the very next day even though it was 8:00PM. Sometimes during a real bad storm, we lose the SIGNAL,but that comes with living out in the COUNTRY. As far as price increases are concerned, nothing major. Most products and services experience increases in price hikes from time to time due to the increase in a supplier's operating costs; such as equipment, fuel, wages;etc. Take a look at your grocery bill and the price of fuel at the pump when you fill up your private vehicle. The way I see it, it is just part of LIFE and comes with the territory. Happy Tractoring.:tractor:

I live in the UP about 15 miles from Lake Superior as the crow flies. I've had DirecTV for 4 1/2 years now and this past spring I updated to HD DVR.

I don't remember snow being a problem with it, but hard rain will knock out the signal and can take a while to come back.

If I lose my signal I just watch something I have recorded on my DVR.

My dish is about 10 feet up and bolted to the house.

Prices do go up a little each year and I'm at $108 now, but I'm satisfied.

Anybody want to share about any thing new on the offerings from Dish network or Direct TV....we have to make a choice here soon and it is really confusing...with all the little deals and monthly charges and time limits..etc.

We have Dish Network and we've really had good service from them. They have been responsive and professional in all recent dealings whether it is a repair call or a change to our services. Our current installer/repair guy is top notch. He's a credit to Dish Network probably more than they know because service like his can only bring loyalty from customers like me.

I will say that the programming on Dish Network or DirecTV is loaded with mostly garbage channels. Channels like Discovery and NatGeo have degraded to mostly garbage reality overhyped junk. How much man tracking or the insides of prisons do they think I need. I don't need to watch freak shows or people strung out on dope on a weekly basis. Even the types of things I like to watch like American Restoration and American Pickers seem to think they have to have melodrama like Pawn Stars. It gets a little under my skin from time-to-time. I find myself escaping to old movies or reruns of old TV shows more and more. An interesting fact is that my 6th grade grandson watches the cartoon channels, but he prefers the old Looney Tunes cartoons and will watch them on our set of DVDs over and over. He never gets tired of the Road Runner or Bugs Bunny. Neither do I.:laughing:

I had both Dish and Direct tv for years. I generally got pissed off at one or the other and would quit one, join the other. Played them off each other so i always got new antennas and new boxes.

This is, over the last year i got to notice that shows were getting shorter and the commercials were getting longer. There were shows with 30 small 15 second spots showing up... and commercials that were LONGER than the segment of show i was watching.

And i was paying nearly $100/month for this. Then the proliferation of reality shows which i MAJOR despise. I even heard of one where the winner was the one that got the most plastic surgery before they got married.

I finally had enough and canceled all service. I purchased a HD antenna for the roof ($69.00 one time cost) and i get 17 channels in very clear broadcast quality ,,, for FREE. CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX plus others.

Im looking into a netflix subscription ($8.00/mo) for movies...but well see. I actually enjoy not being glued to that **** box every night.

I'm beginning to think that's the only thing to do. As I mentioned before, I got so tired of Dish's lousy service that I changed to DirecTV. Then at least once a year, they try raising the price. At least the price is the only problem I've had with DirecTV.

Former next door neighbors also got fed up with Dish and changed to DirecTV. New owner a couple of years ago, changed it back to Dish. And this past week, he changed to Charter Communications.

For the 3 years my mother was in a nursing home, she had Charter's basic service and both her individual service and the nursing home's service was bad enough to make me a bit leary of them. However, I get circulars in the mail about once a week from Charter wanting to sell me their service, so I guess that will be next.:D

Play the 'discount game' with DirecTV. We installed it 4 months ago at our mountain property (since there are only 2 OTA channels available).

Got the following discounts for the Choice Extra Pkg. -$10/mo for 10 months (referred by a friend offer), -$10 (free HD with auto bill pay option), -$6 (one free receiver), -$5 (receive email offers)

All this means is that we pay $19.95 for 6 months, then $24.95 for 6 months, then $49.95 for 12 mos... for Choice Extra Pkg, with HD access (our place is small so we only have one receiver and don't have the DVR)

The first trick is to get their best initial monthly offer. It's usually offered with online registering, but also can be in a direct mail flyer. Call their tool-free number and play dumb, they'll do all the work to get you signed up and give you the best offer available online vs direct mail or whatever...

Make sure you get someone with an existing account to give you their number for the 'refer a friend program'. Doing that gets you and the friend a -$10 discount for 10 months.

If you have a good high speed internet you also night look into netflix. It is much cheaper, plus lots of choices.
