I went to Michigan Tech, and I used to be the lighthouse keeper in Eagle Harbor, so I feel your pain.

Talk to the installer and tell them you want a dish sized to minimize snow fade. If they don't know what you mean, ask for someone else.

Skyvision has covers and heaters that could help, but I know what kind of snow you get up there. Oh yah, it's going to be a good one Toivo!

Just put the dish at head height. I don't know why people insist on putting the dish on the roof, anywhere you can see the satellite is fine, and if you get snow you can clean it off the dish standing flat footed on the ground.

Head height in the winter in da U.P. is at the eaves! His best bet is to put it on the end of the house so that he can smack it with the roof rake when he's clearing he snow off of the roof.

We gave up "live tv" a couple of years ago, as the cost just got to high. We have no cable on this side of the valley, but have dsl, and need it, so now just get the new's off the internet, streaming audio, and netflix for entertainment. Don't miss it much, but can just run to town if I feel the need to watch a ball game. The Sat tv, went to about 100 bucks a month, and we paid for 10+ years. Was able to get a couple of stations over the air until it went digital a couple of years ago, but now can only get Fox news, and a half a dozen bible stations. Nether of witch I care to watch.

I'm am curious how anyone can get FNC (Fox News Channel) over a broadcast signal considering the fact that they are a "cable network"

Perhaps you mean the local (broadcast) Fox network affiliate which is entirely differnet than Fox news channel?

Ive had a war going on over both of them...now i have NO tv except over the air...and i like it better. All i ever watched were old re-runs anyways as all the current "hit" shows sucked IMO, so now i just have them on DVD if i want to watch them. If the FCC ever allowes a program where i can PICK the channels i want, and not have packages, ill re-sign up. I do miss the history channel. I swore to my wife..."NO MORE TV until reality shows are declared illegal". God how i hate all reality shows (cept for cops).

I got tired of all the games. every time directv raised my rates i called to cancel service. They would ultimately lower my rate back down for a year and give me 90 days of free pay sites if i stayed on. One time they gave me free 90 days on everything also if i wouldn't cancel. It was a game that i got tired of. Lets see whats on tv.....hmm, a new reality show about bridalplasty and the winner is the one that gets the most plastic surgery.....nope. Hmmm, gay eye for the straight guy...hmmm noooo, lets see, desperate housewives...errrr noooo, lets see, the real housewife's of whatever **** hole...errrr no, lets see...hay everyone loves Raymond is on. Wait, i have the entire thing on DVD, but hay, I'm paying $90/month for satellite, so lets watch it here and we also get to watch all the fun commercials.

That is where it will probably go.

Just easier to get it up, out of the way.

I would hate to have to shovel out my dish

We have Directv no problems except now I want HD. And...I don't want to pay for it. We moved out here in '01 and got the service shortly after. Really gets me when they forget their customer base and only care about the new subscribers.

and besides, if I did not put the dish high up on the house, I would have no reason to put someone in my bucket and raise them up to clean it off....and maybe have some fun / funny photos or video.
