any known problems with jd 4100?

(I posted this to "JD buying" also) I am purchasing a 4100. I have read several vague references to "problems with the 4000 series". Would anyone care to share
first-hand specific problems they've had with the 4100 model, and include the resolutions provided by your dealer. I also would be interested in knowing of any updates which have been applied, so I can check to see how up-dated this particular 4100 is before taking delivery. I am also interested in the 60 inch mid mower, the 410 FEL, the 51" power brush. Thanks guys...

I have had my 4100 since mid summer and have been extremely pleased with the performance. Have not run across any problem of any sort. I own the 60" mid mount mower and am very pleased with it's power and cutting abilities, in addition I find it very maneuverable around trees and other obstacles. Just tried out my 54" front blade on a light snowfall we had last night, worked great. I also own the 410 loader and made good use of that this fall, can't believe how easy it is to take off and put on.

I purchased a 4100 last December and have 125 hous on it. It is an HST with 60" belly mower, turf tires and 410 Loader. This tractor has been great. No problems. It is extremely versatile and powerful. I have about two acres to mow and also horses on about 9 acres of pasture. The tractor does a great job mowing and has worked well in the pasture for dragging the fields with a 10' wide drag. I have even used the mower at the highest setting to cut the pasture when needed. I also used the Loader for plowing last year and that worked well.

One thing I just did was buy a set of chains for the rear. I did get stuck a couple of times last spring on soft ground when doing some loader work. This isn't any thing bad with the tractor but a drawback of the turf tires. I paid $150 for the chains from Deere but they are good insurance if you are working on ground/conditions with minimal traction.

I am sure you will enjoy your new 4100.

One other thing. With respect to 4000 series tractors I think those problems were with models other than the 4100. The 4100 is made by Yanmar, a Japanese company to Deere specs. The other 4000 series tractors are US made and are a different design, although I think the engines may be Yanmar.

they wanted to paint a U next to the 4100 decal on mine.
[i will omit the driving into the lake story]

drained the oil and new filter and she 'runs like a deere'.
no water got in anywhere else.
i use the 60" belly mower, 3pt rough mower, 410 loader, rear blade [all at the lake, everything from mowing yard to building roads]. never have a problem with it.
i did snag off my radio antenna in the brush.... but that is another story
