Any one else have an old graveyard?

Yeah, those look clean/newish. What are the incriptions? (date-wise, anyway, don't want to intrude on anyone's privacy).

Since a kid (46 now), I've always been intrigued when taken to cemeteries, be it places where family are buried, especially when taken to military sites, with the exceptionally neat rows...and then learning the history and sacrifice that came with those "neat rows", it really packs a punch.

See a death date on one at 1946

We have one on our land as well clean up fenced area every year. In over 7 years no one has ever come but we still keep it up out of respect

I think it would be real cool to have one.

Many years ago I had a twenty two acre tract with a mobile home site on it where I lived. Withing easy rock throwing distance of the home site was a grave yard. Out by the road there was an historical marker announcing the existence of the old grave yard. There were about one hundred grave sites in the site and the latest grave dated to early 1900 while the earliest was back in the 1700's. Not one person ever visited those graves other than me while I lived there, even with the big sign out by the road. It was kind of sad that all those folks were forgotten like that. There were two above ground vaults at the corner nearest to my home. One day I went out with a flashlight to check them out. These two vaults dated back to the early 1800's. Through the years they had deteriorated enough that a few openings existed to shine the light through. Timidly I shined the light in. Much to my surprise but relief there was absolutely nothing in there. The years and the bugs and varmints had removed all traces of the life that was laid to rest in that vault. Dust to dust I guess. It's been many years since anyone has lived on that old home site and the land has grown up around the grave yard to the point where it would take a bit of perseverance and snake boots to visit the grave yard. But the sign is still there by the road.

Family plots are not rare around here (extreme N.E. GA)...for years we used to hike up to a remote, abandoned Amethyst mine...we always paused when passing by a grave marked by just a cross...

GM built a plant back in the 80's in Hamtramack, Michigan. The parking lot for the plant surrounds a small jewish graveyard, it is kept clean and is made accessible on the holy days for those folks.

None on my land, but several in the area. All are very old. One that I happened upon while riding ATV trails, on Gov land (CORE), near a lake comes to mind. Ten miles from any road, no signs, or markers. All were dated early 1700's. It had a metal fence around a family plot that was 30'x40'. Metal had to have been made by a blacksmith on site. It was a really nice fence. I could not imagine the time it took to make that fence and the gate still worked perfectly. I was amazed by that fence. It had to be a labor of love. And to think no one has stole it for scrap metal yet.

I would go out there tonight and see if there are any ghost or spirits around. You could have some ghost hunters check it out.
