seriously are any of ya'll armed while working your land???

last year i read a hair raising story. this guy was mowing his yard in Virginia. a rabid coyote came out of the woodline and tried to attack him. he kicked the 'yote away while trying to drive the mower back to the house, mower ran out of gas, he got a hold of a rake and kept the 'yote away from him. he got inside and called 911(guess he don't like guns), the law tracked down the 'yote and killed it.

its an isolated case but it could happen to anyone.

I pack deet. I once had a rabid skeeter chase me across the lawn and trap me inside the garage for an hour before it finally noticed a small child walking down the street and went after her. She squished it.

I would worry if I carried a gun that if I drove into a ground hog hole and the tractor broke an axel, I'd have to climb down and shoot it. I couldn't handle the emotional stress.

I suppose there are environments where having a gun along on the tractor would be a good idea, but I try to stay away from those neighborhoods.

(Sorry, feeling a bit goofy tonight.)

Can you please get a live trap, for god?

I'm always packing the dirt with the tractor tires.

Something about loaded firearm while bouncing up and down on tractor just doesn't sound all that safe.

One could always carry 4 or 5 foot solid pipe on board, and use the pipe for other things also protection need be.

I need to rig a rifle carrier somehow. I've had several coyote sightings while clipping the pasture but none within (my) pistol range.

While mowing the ATV trails in my back 6 acres I see numerous deer and woodchucks but for the most part that's all the wildlife there is. If something tried to attack me I'd just pursue them with the FEL bucket raised....and as part of my toolkit on the JD I have rigged up a carrier for a large heavy crowbar that's always with me.

Although I have a CCW permit I hope I never end up having to carry a gun on my property. If the neighborhood ever gets THAT bad I will sell out and move.

That would be a never ending battle. The coyote population has increased until farmers are now worried about their new born calves and horses. There is no large game to keep their numbers in check anymore.

Glenn, I thought of a rifle rack on the ROPS to carry long handle tools. Have not done it yet, but it seems reasonable. And obviously would carry a rifle! But I also found, and also have not installed, carry brackets designed for use on ATVs. They are designed to carry a rifle, or just about anything else that would fit, as they have an cam locking claw, so you stick what you want carried, squeeze the claw (it is padded to protect the stock) and it stays clamped until you release it. Made by Koplin.

I've often thought it would be easier to carry a couple shotguns on the ROPS and a case of shells, case of clay pigeons and a trap machine in the FEL than to pack all that stuff up and pull it in a wagon.

Never needed a gun on my property, but occasionally would have liket to have had one. Not for criminals, but for a pesky critter!
