ANY ONE HERE PACKING WHEN USING YOUR TRACTORS???

IWould love to have something to carry when cutting the tall grass on my property but not sure what would be appropriate. When I am mowing I typically see 6 to 12 field mice and/or rats and would love to put them away. I know my Browning 9MM would be a little overkill and the 12 ga Auto-5 would be too much trouble. Thought about a repeating pellet pistol but then I would need to be more accurate than I could probably expect on a moving tractor.

Back in the 60's when Colt single actions were somewhat affordable I had a 45 with a smooth bore barrel. I would put 410 shells in the chamber, cut them to length and reload. Made a great snake gun and would be perfect for what I need. Sure wish I still had it, duplicating it today would be way to costly.

Mike,
That's kind of conspicuous, don't you think?

It could be useful for taking down trees and removing limbs (of any kind).

Cliff I didn't feel the need to camouflage it. Besides just the looks of it discourages all door-to-door salesmen. The tractor is visible from my driveway, and a sign on my door reads: "I shoot every third salesman and the second one just left." /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm very friendly otherwise.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Use a brass magnet....I think Harbor Freight will sell you one. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You should paint it a camouflage scheme. Then people could not see that your packing. Myself, I favor matched, trained Chihuahuas in a shoulder holster rig. Real handy on the tractor, they keep your armpits warm /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif and the ladies think there cute. The downside is they will eat your lunch if your not careful. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Is anyone else seeing this thread turning into "ASSAULT TRACTORS" ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Brings a new meaning to "Homeland Defense"

Potential invaders in history were afraid of the minutemen, now they have waves of armed tractors to worry about.

Not many people want to mess with farmers around here- especially those with backhoes (they're afraid of getting put in a hole on the back forty /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Just a little bravado humor... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Don't keep it loaded when you are driving, heck I carry a 30/30 and drive my tractor ,I even keep a weather proof case strapped to the tractor at times to put my rifle in.

I read a story on the internet about 2 prisoners who escaped from prison, broke into a farm house, stole some guns and a car. Then they went to another farm and saw a farmer in the field on his tractor, and he had a pistol in a holster on his side. The bad guys broke out a rifle, dropped the farmer off the tractor, and went on to pillage the house.

If the farmer had carried concealed, he might have gotten the drop on the bad guys, but we'll never know for sure. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Of course this may be one of those urban legends, and I can't prove it one way or the other.

I carried a few times after racoons were raiding my trash cans out by the road. But then it dawned on me that they were out at night when I wasn't, so I haven't carried on the tractor since.

This is a traditional rifle carrier. They work well on saddles, I don't see why it wouldn't work on a tractor. Brush won't cock the gun or trip the trigger nor have I ever seen a gun pulled from the scabbard inadvertently. I'm sure it could happen if you worked at it. If you have expensive guns that you don't really want banging around in the field getting beat up go to a pawn shop and get a "truck", or in this case, "tractor" gun. When I was a kid everyone had a truck gun that permanently rode around in the truck in case it was needed. None of them were pretty, the pretty guns came out for hunting season.
