When they first came out the canvas covering would wear against the ground and the rubber would bust thru it and blow in just a couple of weeks. The newer ones that claim to be three times as strong do last a lot longer, about a year with daily usage. For watering plants on a deck or some place where a thick rubber hose kinks and knocks over pots and such, this is the way to go. People who say they suck out of hand are not using them for their intended purpose. Women love them and for good reason. I have seven or eight of them currently and have purchased many over the past few years. If twenty bucks is too much to spend on a hose that lasts maybe a year then this may not be for you.

As someone mentioned, buying a new hose every year is ridiculous. If someone is watering flowers that much, they might want to look into drip irrigation. Its cheaper in the long run, automatic and you don't have to mess with it. We've had it on our deck pots, planters, hanging baskets, flower boxes, flower beds, heck, I even have it filling our bird bath. I add on to it every year or two. Its on a battery operated timer. We have 2 zones that cover everything. A 3rd zone waters the garden. It works when we're away. 2AA batteries last all summer long.

Its similar to this stuff...

I buy pieces at Lowe's, Home Depot, hardware stores, etc.... clearance in the fall is pretty darn cheap.

I had one. Got it for the same reason, the wife didn't like dragging a heavy hose around to water her flowers and the garden. The first thing I noticed (mine was a 100' made by Dap) is that they waste a lot of water. You fill the hose up and the surgical inner tubing expands until the outer nylon jacket stops it from expanding. But once you're done you need to empty the hose for it to contract. If you don't the sun could damage it. So pretty much the full length of hose worth of water gets wasted unless you have something close to the faucet. This summer, the second season, the wife was dragging it around that the inner tubing ripped near the brass fitting and now it's garbage. It's not like the wife is a linebacker for Green Bay so there's no way she put more force than the hose should have been designed for. I now have two hoses, one that nice and heavy duty that's 100' long that rarely get's moved and a shorter light weight hose on the end. That works just as well and should last for a lot longer.
