Any Subaru owners?

I am glad this thread came back up. I have been considering trying a Subaru Forester as my next daily driver. I am driving a full size truck now and am thinking of replacing it with a used Forester and a used F-350 flatbed 4x4 for the farm. The feedback from Subaru owners in this thread has been very helpful....thanks

I have owned a 84 Brat and now drive a 09 Legacy. Both have been trouble free. Gave up the Brat at 160k and the Legacy has 141k now and I will keep it for at least another 5 or 6 years. It will be replace by another Legacy or similar when the time comes.

We have a 2011 Outback 6 cyl. with 68,000 miles that we bought new and it's the worst vehicle we have ever owned. We will never do another Subaru. Burns 1-1/4 quart of oil between 3,000-5,000 mile oil changes and the dealer says this is acceptable!? Have had numerous issues with door locks, headlights, battery, fit and finish, etc. we tried to like the vehicle, but the longer we own it the less we like it. We have owned Toyota, Nissan, Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. It is, without a doubt, the worst vehicle we have owned. I drive a 10 year old Toyota Sequoia with 280,000 miles and, except for oil changes, I have spent far less on this in 10 years than I have spent on the new Subaru in less than 4 years.

Wife has a 2013 outback, went in for new rings at 28k, eats tires at the pace of about 30k, but that is cuz the factory choice is for pavement, and as a realtor here in Gods country, plenty of dirt roads. She loves it (with studded snows) in bad weather, but I'm not a fan of the handling or the bluetooth in it. I drive a 2014 Ram 1500 4x4 v6 and get 23mpg on the hiway, she gets only 28 with the H4, so it doesn't seem very economical. They are good snow cars, but I think some of the other CUVs out there may give you more for the money (thinking Rav4 or Jeep Cherokee). The forester def handles better than the outback, and seems a little roomier in the front to me.

yes, the handling/ride is awful and the Bluetooth is terrible as well. We did get 55,000 miles on the factory tires. We get 28 highway and 22.5 average.

The 2005 Toyota Sequoia has been hands down the best. 280,000 and seems like it has a lot of life left. Tough comparing all the different brands I've owned because they haven't all been the same type of vehicle.

What year, model?

Our 97 Outback was sold, running well, with 189,000 miles on it. The next owner, a relative, drove it to 244,000 and sold it again. Her next Outback was traded in with 245,000 and stayed on the road.

The older gen [96-99] Outbacks and Legacy wagons tend to need front axles around 150,000 head gaskets at 100-150,000. We replaced our head gaskets at 140,000 as a maintenance item. They seem to have more wheel bearing troubles than most other cars at around 100,000.

In the late 90's the Outback became the best selling wagon in the country (one of the only!) so tons are around, from rode hard and put away wet to pristine.

Kid that works for me just bought a legacy i think it is 250000 on it cant believe it the motor doesnt have a tick in it bodys rusted bad though.i paid more for my last pair of boots then he did for this car!
