Now that made me laugh although it was held at Bloomsburg Pa. this summer and Bloomsburg's only about 55 miles from our house. That statement along with the thread about Halloween costumes made for an enjoyable day on TBN.
I wish I knew tractor history like you do FWJ, you are really a walking encyclopedia when it comes to tractors and farming.

Or, as my wife puts it, a walking encyclopedia of worthless trivial information.

Back in the day, my job paid for living expenses and raising the kids. Farm income, such as it was, barely paid for the mortgage payment. Anything over and above simply maintaining status quo was paid for by buying and selling used farm equipment. I learned most of what I know by process of osmosis while all sorts of equipment passed through the shed doors.

I didn't take it in a negative way but like you I am going to be real curious as to how it performs. Yep, you will be first in line. Do you want it sent UPS or parcel post?:)

Evening Scotty----Yes, they were very nice people and his one son does most of the mechanical work on there seven tractors. I questioned him to death about the hours, comes to about 105 hrs of use per year but he stuck by his guns. When I got to his place he and his two sons were gently discussing if they had made the right decision by selling it. They had two giant Case International MFWD's and they felt that they didn't need a third big tractor.
I will mark you down as second in line!!!!!

These IHC tractors didnt make it across this side of the pond:
We had our own IHC products in Europe, using the American engines, and ZF transmissions for anything above 100 hp.
the 1455 (using the same transmission as Deutz, Eicher and Fendt offerings of that time, the predecessor of the transmission in current Deutz models) was a legend on its own, many contractors still use them during harvest peaks.
The older models like 946 and 1046 are popular among part time farmers, and the 856 and 1056 still are sought after.

I still dont get why IHC chose to export only the poor English models to the USA and not the German models. The German models were 10 times better.

Oleozz, my aforementioned friend who works for the local CaseIH dealer has the IH 1066 on the top of his personal wish list. He had gone so far as to measure whether a 1066 would fit in his one garage bay.

Congratulations on the purchase! Like others said, the 1066 is a classic. It is one of the best tractors that IH made.

Finding a well-maintained piece of equipment in original condition is worth the wait. I am speaking from experience after just buying a '72 Ford F250 on eBay. You may pay a bit more, but I think that being patient is worth it.

Farmwithjunk is exactly right about IH. It was not product that led to their demise, but a multi-layered, perfect storm scenario that brought them down. Poor management, too diverse a corporate product line which sapped R&D assets, hostile labor relations which brought a long, bitter strike, the collapse of the farm economy, plus sky-high interest rates. I am currently reading Barbara Marsh's book, A Corporate Tragedy. The 20+ year old book chronicles IH's demise. Not light reading, but fascinating.

Before I forget, you will learn to appreciate Hoober's parts and service since you are so close to the McAllisterville store. Their website is also top-notch for ordering parts.

Do you know which IH dealer originally sold the tractor? In 1973, I guess that it could have been Hoober's in Intercourse, Hollinger's in Mountville, Messick's in E-town, or Sheffer's in Hanover.

My buddy somehow got an old IH with the "German" diesel in it. Can't remember the model but I do remember asking him when he bought it, "Why'd you buy that hunk of crap? For scrap iron? It was dismal looking, rusty and only a few areas where you could barely tell used to be red. He fixed it up about 5 years ago and he still uses it for his custom hay operation. Says the engine is just too smooth. BTW, I think he only gave $250 for it in sad shape.
