Irish tavern here hollows them out and puts Bailey's and whipped cream in them.

Covering in chocolate works, but still not as good as home grown, covered in chocolate!

My grandfather always told us strawberries taste better if you put manure on them.

The best way is to let them vine ripen

Biggest problem about growing strawberries outdoors on the ground beside wet weather problems is that just about everything else likes them ripe too...chipmunks, mice, squirrels, crows, etc.

At work we grow them in plastic tunnels using hanging baskets off the ground. And either wand water or use drips.

They come out pretty good! :D

there is a hydroponic strawberry business around here, they have a variety
that grows all summer. 2 years ago we picked berries in early October!
they were fair, not like the big juicy ones we pick in June, but better than
nothing!
how many pots would it take for a family to get enough berries to be able
to make a few batches of freezer jam?
oh and eat them fresh, the best way.!

I never seem to find as much flavor from things hydroponically grown like tomatoes as from in the soil either. You can really tell the difference. Everbearing is what the continuous cropping types are called. Usually are 5 plants per basket. Always sell quite a few and get a lot of positive feedback on them. Also sell flats with 15 individual plants. 3 baskets or one flat is the same price.

Hmm asking how many strawberry plants is enough is like saying how many tomato plants do I need! :D

Wow...not a lot of love for store bought strawberries.

MossRoad--wife cut them up and put sugar on top and she is making an angel food cake right now. Slice of that cake with strawberries on top is probably the best and highest use of big box berries.
We had that last week! :licking:
