Anybody have a sleep number or comfortaire mattress?

Bought a select comfort about 2 years ago. We love it. My sleep improved the very first night we used it. I would recommend one to anybody who asked.

The only issue, and I don't know if this is a pro or con, is that if you are married, and your numbers are pretty different (mine 75, hers 50), it is like having separate beds.

We bought an extended (6" wider) Queen Select Comfort Sleep Number bed 3-4 years ago because the king was too big for our cabin. I do like the ability to adjust the firmness. If my muscles are really aching I select a softer number. In the cabin the humidity was really high (no central heat or air) and a spot of mildew formed on the air mattress cover under the air mattress. Sleep Number warranty is good and they sent us out a new cover free. They did require us to mail them the old cover.

Next, the mattress did not hold air after we moved it and put it on a new bed. Sleep Number told me to put a plug in the valve stem and the mattress did hold air so Select Comfort sent us out a new pump assembly. The Warranty was now 3-4 years old and we had to pay 30% about $100. Our old pump had two wired remotes and the new pumps had only one dual wireless remote. Sleep number was very good and gave us free a second wireless remote. (So we don't have to reach over each other if we need to change firmness in the middle of the night. It doesn't happen often but it's nice to re-adjust if you are aching because of yesterdays activities.)

Next, we still were loosing air and I noticed the valve stems on the air mattress looked different, and then realized that the o-ring end of the valve had broken off in the hose end of the old pump, and that was the reason for our air loss. Sleep Number sent us out two new air mattresses after we paid our 30% about $90. They did require us to send them the old air mattresses.

Every thing is working good and feeling good now. I was very satisfied with the Customer service.

(I'm set on number 45, her's 35.)

We have used a sleep number for about 10 years. A few years ago we had an issue where the thin foam layer on top of the air matress would bunch up. Unzipped the cover and rotated the foam head to toe. This seemed to help. Now it seems like we have a slow leak but I have not bothered to look for it. I just put a little more air in it about once a week.

Other than my wife keeping her side real low (below 20) and me likeing it firmer (55) we have no issues.

The ability to change the firmness is one of the main reasons I like the sleep number bed. I experimented with 35 to 75. While we don't change real often, we do change sometimes. For quite awhile my wife had her side down around 35 and I had mine at 75. Then for awhile I found I was more comfortable at 55, but for at least a couple of years or more, I keep mine at 65 and knew my wife has been having back problems, so I just learned that hers is on 85. We have the two wired remotes. Like txdon said, we each have our own, on the nightstands by the bed. I wanted the wired ones because we may not touch the remote for months at a time, and I didn't want one to get lost or have a dead battery when I needed it.

The only warranty issue we've had was with the black plastic foundation instead of the mattress itself. One piece of plastic in a side rail broke in July, 2004, when the bed was 2 years old. I called and the young lady promptly said they knew they got some defective material in the rails of the foundation and that she'd send new ones. I thought I'd get just the one piece that broke, but she said, no, they'd send all the side and end rails; no charge and did not want the old ones back.

A friend had one develop a leak during the night, said she woke up dreaming she was in a coffin. Until she touched her husbands hand, and freaked out.

I think they replaced it with another one.

We have had one probably 5 years now, and have to say it never helped me sleep, never made my back feel better, and I am still tired in the day time. It did help drain my check book though.:(

Same here, we are not impressed either.

A numbered tractor air seat would be nice. What's your number?:D

Bird, I have an extra pump/4tube/wired remote assembly that is not compatible with my new mattresses that use 2tube/wireless/pump. The new mattresses need only one tube each instead of two tubes each. PM me if your pump assembly ever needs replacing.

I will share my mattress experiences - We had a queen mattress (simmons) that was replaced under warranty after about 4 yrs due to sagging.. We then moved into a new house and bought a king size (IBC) that is also sagging badly that i probably could be replaced under warranty.. It is not a pillow top, but the next step below that (plush?? - still has a latex topper built in)..

The springs are what provides the support for your back and the toppers are just for your comfort (do you like a harder surface or a softer)

I researched a LOT on mattresses - and here is what I found out..

Tempurpedic - "memory foam" some ppl dont like them because they consider them hot and you can have trouble moving around in them (ie 'swimming in pudding' is one explanation I read).. They also 'gas' badly for weeks (emit noxious fumes).. They should not sag like an IS. I have read that they may not last as long as latex mattresses though..

Inner Springs - today IS mattresses are not the same quality from the 70's.. The springs are either not as heavy OR dont hold their shape as well.. There are about 2 or 3 manufacturers that make inner springs like the 70's that will hold up much longer than a regular IS mattress (i found that on a mattress forum and dont remember the mfg names though)

Latex Foam - If you dont like the memory foam pudding feel, a latex may be an option to consider.. The natural latex will not break down like some of the normal foams used in mattresses.. Typically ppl dont find that they hold heat. also you can get varying densities in layers that can offer firm support, but yet provide comfort to pressure points.

some mattress places will try to sell you a 'latex mattress' but it is just an IS with a latex topper built in.. It will give you the same sagging issues.. I would beware of any manufacturer that doesnt specify the type of foam and its density used in their mattress

I just ordered a 3 layer Natural Dunlop mattress from Latex Mattress Factory - $595 Latex Mattresses - 100% Natural&Talalay on Monday.. We went a x-firm/firm/medium (top) layers that are zipped up into a mattress cover. With sleepez you can exchange any (all) layers within the first 90 days for something firmer or softer..
