Anybody have a sleep number or comfortaire mattress?

I think you have that exactly backwards. Go back to post #9 in this thread. Our 9 year old sleep number queen sized bed is the best bed we've ever had. And I did look on the internet first. And talked to some people who had those Tempurpedic beds; even got their literature, sample material, etc.

That's why they make different beds I suppose. Different strokes for different folks. I'll definitely stick with what I posted. I just checked Google again on a dozen different review sites and didn't see a single site with over 100 reviews where the sleep number bed averaged higher than 2 1/2 stars out of 5. Glad you like yours. For others who want one, I did look and the average price for a "like new" sleep number bed that actually sold on eBay and other auction and classified sales sites is still around $400 for a queen sized sleep number bed. After actually trying a queen sized one in our home, I'll take your Texas town on them; El Paso.

Other than the terrible odor for almost 6 months, the "real" Tempurpedic mattress is the best we've had. I was about ready to send it back when it finally stopped "off gassing". There are hundreds of copycats who are "like Tempurpedic", but like most all knock-offs, they fall short. We've had the Tempurpedic for almost 5 years now and it still feels like new (except for no smell).

Same experience here. Looked at a Sleep number but thought it was too gimmicky. Bought a genuine Tempur-pedic about 4 years ago. They really do give off a bizarre odour. Almost enough to make you gag. But all of a sudden, you realize the smell isn't there any more. Still love it.

One thing though. We got back from Barbados last month and our furnace was out. House was 50 degrees. Got the furnace on and we hit the sack.
Well, the "sack" felt like a frozen brick. Tempur-pedics will harden up when cold! It was like sleeping on cold sponge toffee!

Well I sure am having trouble getting used to it, but then, they all feel like bricks to me. May end up trading it in for a Tempurpedic before the time runs out.

Well, as Dargo said, that's why they make different ones. Just as they make different brands of tractors. Three of my wife's brothers bought Tempurpedic; 2 hated'em and sent'em back; one liked his. I never would have bought the sleep number bed if they hadn't had a money back guarantee, but now after 9 years, I just hope it lasts another 10 or 15.:)

like a good friend once said: they make chevrolet because some people like chevrolet: they make ford because some people like ford: I don't have a clue why they make dodge?
