Anybody have a sleep number or comfortaire mattress?

Our mattress is really starting to sag in the middle, so we're looking to get a new one. The wife wants a sleep number (or equivalent) I'm not so sure.
I've been doing some research on mattresses and it seems that the pillowtop design is a major player in the "mattress sag". #1 the pillowtop itself collapses and #2 the pillowtop design prevents the mattress from being turned which contributes to innerspring wear.
The memory foam is a definite No, so that leaves me with expensive mattress or an expensive air mattress. I'm looking of input on the adjustable duel air chamber systems, but input on mattresses in general is welcome.
Mebby you should have a look at the box spring.50% of the time its the boxspring giving out.
i bought a $2000 memory foam matrass 3 yrs ago,2 years later it had a 2" sag in it with nobody on it,4" sag with the both of us in it.(320 lbs total)
I replaced the boxspring with a home made 2x6 wood frame.Matrass is straight as arrow again,no sag at all.
These factory boxsprings are made from the cheapest crap they can find, rip one apart and see for yourself.

Just thought i would add.. When i put up or latex mattress, the box springs seemed to be very solid - I could stand on it and it would barely dip down.. I thought it would be good enough..

BUT after a week I noticed the mattess showed a little sag.. I cut 2 pieces of 23/32" OSB (ran across the bed) and it is much firmer now.. You can really tell the difference in it.. The OSB still has a slight odor to it, but it is getting less and less every day..

For the records - our new latex mattress seems to be very comfortable - Still not sure on whether we need/want a soft top layer instead of a medium..

Received a catalog yesterday from Select Comfort. They are having a sale in my area until 4/2.

It says "Lowest Price Ever on our most popular bed." Save $400 on the P5 bed set.

Shoppers might want to check it out.

Later,
Dan

About 5 years ago my wife and I bought a sleep number mattress. We both slept like a baby; we woke up about every 2 hours and cried because we were so uncomfortable. I wish I'd looked on the internet first. It seems that most everyone agrees that their queen size mattress is completely worthless. It's just a couple of cheap air mattresses with a wedge of foam in the middle, where you both end up on top of each other every couple of hours. There was one of those junk things in our RV when we were buying it. We made them remove the thing and change it out or no deal.

Other than the terrible odor for almost 6 months, the "real" Tempurpedic mattress is the best we've had. I was about ready to send it back when it finally stopped "off gassing". There are hundreds of copycats who are "like Tempurpedic", but like most all knock-offs, they fall short. We've had the Tempurpedic for almost 5 years now and it still feels like new (except for no smell). If you want a sleep number bed, you can generally find them on Craigslist or in yard sales really cheap. The 'camping' air mattress rage is pretty well dead now.

If you look around a bit, it's not hard to find the bed for $400 from someone getting rid of one. Generally you can get on for less though.

I think you have that exactly backwards. Go back to post #9 in this thread. Our 9 year old sleep number queen sized bed is the best bed we've ever had. And I did look on the internet first. And talked to some people who had those Tempurpedic beds; even got their literature, sample material, etc.

We have had our King Size Sleep Number bed for 4 years now and the comfort of it is very impressive. The firmness of each mattress can be adjusted individually. Her setting is different than mine. They never sag or have to be turned. Never a sink hole in the middle of the bed. To me they are like putting a brand new mattress on every night before we go to bed. I think the warranty is for 30 years on ours.
