Anybody use Paypal ?

Have not read all the posts and someone may have already mentioned that the U.S. Government is starting to monitor transactions over $600.00 effective 1-1-2022. My understanding is they will then send 1099 statements at year end for the total of these receipts via Paypal, Venmo etc.

Edit:
I believe they nixed this. As far as i know they wont be doing this. But i claim everything i sell as this is part of my business, so even if they do i could care less.

my customers seem to prefer using a credit card, and i dont have to bother going into town to deposit the checks.

Lots of folks using Venmo now

Most online businesses collect sales taxes now
This would be for INCOME tax purposes but it also may be a way for uncle to make sure sales tax is being collected.

Yes it is. I used to sell there several years ago, but not recently. Selling is different. I cannot comment about that since it has been so long.

I have pretty much stopped using eBay entirely. Amazon has shorter delivery times and seems more efficient. I also think PayPal and eBay are now one in the same. I think PayPal bought eBay many years ago.

Funny..yes ebay and paypal did combine a few years back..but they recently split again!

Same for me, the only thing I have bought off of ebay in the past 5 years is 1 refrig filter...and it was false advertising. Pictures/description for filter A but they shipped a completely different one. I was able to return it...but that is it for me. No more buying on eBay. I do still sell though.

You may be right on the "nixing" as several other issues have been pulled out of the spending bill if I understand correctly.

We've used PayPal for years, no issues at all. Actually feel like it provides an extra layer of security when ordering from some sites.
Same here.
I buy online a lot.
I much prefer using Paypal vs credit card to pay so I don't need to give out my CC number.
Never an issue

I still use E-Bay and PayPal.
Never had many issues, what I did have got resolved.
I will have to admit it seems like much of what shows up on E Bay any more
seems to be new smaller items similar to what you find on Amazon.
I have gotten some used parts, truck rims and such for a decent price
and a clutch intermediate shaft for a Farmall H.

Like others here, I've been using PayPal & eBay for over 20 years without issue. It's only a matter of time before some low life hacks their database though. To protect myself, I have PayPal linked to a low balance checking acct. used only for that purpose. I linked my main Visa card as well to take advantage of the rewards. The Visa fraud policy provides protection from unauthorized use.

I used to sell a lot on eBay but not so much now. The high shipping costs pretty much put me out of business.

I just had a great pay pal experience. I had ordered a product online and never received an email confirmation or tracking information. Fortunately I used Pay Pal. The seller charged to my account. I contacted Pay Pal last week to report that this transaction seemed flaky and filed a dispute. After one week, they contacted me today to inform me that they would be crediting my account for that purchase. If I had used any other payment, getting refunded would have been more difficult or not at all.

I was using PayPal for buying and selling on Ebay before Ebay acquired them. I don't recall ever having a problem. I haven't used Ebay or PayPal for several years--Since Microsoft threatened service to site owners that supported IE-11. I'm unable to log into either and get limited ability when just viewing.

Anyway, I've switched to Amazon and can get most of what I want tomorrow. ;)

After one week ?

Yes. Pay pal gave the seller 72 hours to provide a tracking number, and then they called me about one week after I filled the dispute and said that they were refunding my account.

Amazon only sells new stuff. There are some unique and interesting used items on eBay.

Amazon sells alot of new, knock off (fake) stuff …. Reminds me of the old add for real, old fashion lemonade….that contains no real lemons.

and, also, amazon does sell used stuff. I just purchased some used breakers from Amazon last week.mind you there probably 3rd party and dont ship thru amazon warehouse, but they are sold on amazon

I don't think there is a retail outlet, brick and mortar store, online outlet, including Amazon, eBay, Craigslist etc. that does not have some Fake stuff. Some more than others. Just have to be careful. There are some stores that are burdened with fake stuff such as designer clothes and leather goods. Another perfect example of this practice is the recent sale of "N95" mask. Some have been tested and meet specs. and some are not even close. Just have to read and evaluate.

I opened a separate bank account just to link to Paypal. I add money to it as needed. No way in he%l I am linking my real checking account and giving someone credit/debit access of it. WAY too many nightmare stories of eBay/PayPal siding with the wrong people and taking money from others. Low limit CC seems like another good option.

Yep. I last sold something on eBay about 8 years ago. The buyer then disputed the transaction and eBay/PayPal took the money back out of my account without my knowledge. They seem to automatically side with buyers.

The good thing about Amazon is they will refund you, no questions asked and with minimal effort.

Amazon also has casual/private sellers that list, just like EBay.
On TBN there was a lady that sold Olive Oil and she detailed all the fees she faced in order to sell.
It was quite a costly exercise.

Remember .....

PP is a payment processor. They are not a bank. They are not regulated like a bank, nor insured like one.
