Anyone disconnect the computer while welding on a tractor?

I'm building loader mounts on my JD and they have to be tacked in place to be in the correct position. I took the battery out ( needed cleaning anyway ) and was wondering if anything else electrical should be disconnected. I don't like doing this but I didn't see an alternative.

Keep your ground close to your weld and you should be fine.

I ALWAY'S disconnect the battery on any type equipment or vehicle when welding. I have seen to many ECM's fried over the years. They make anti-zap modules you can hook up to the battery to prevent back feeding but if I'm going through the trouble of getting into the battery box I figure why not just disconnect it.

I always try to take them down to this level before welding....

We always disconnected the computers in our spray trucks before welding on them. Better safe than sorry.

Probably not a bad idea.
Some folks also unplug the alternator before welding.

John Bud; That tractor apart picture is just amazing...... and to think it all went back together. I would have had extra pieces. What brand of car was in the right side? Just the right angle so I couldn't tell by the rear valance panel. Some type of Ford ?

Simply removing or disconnecting the battery doesn't do a thing to isolate the computer. Since most control circuits are ground interrupt based, the computer is still connected to ground via internal components and it's own chassis ground. These components don't take kindly to excessive current.

And it's water that takes the path of least resistance. Electricity will take all paths available.
