I was working on the tractor today and did something really really dumb. The lower end of the left lift arm has been bent and spread since I bought the tractor. Today I pulled it off and decided to take a 3# sledge and tap the bend out of it. First hit with the hammer broke the end off of it. The lower end forms an inverted "Y" shape which spans either side of the lower lift arm for the 3PH. It was one side of this "Y" which broke off. I couldn't believe it. I was going to get pictures and totally spaced taking them. I was headed to the dealer any way so I priced and ordered a new piece. $85. Quite a bit less than I was expecting. The upper section of the lift arm has the retaining weld for the ball worn away so I priced that as well. $165. I decided that piece can wait for a while. Might see if a friend of mine can weld a new retaining weld onto it.

Cyril, I spent $202 on my well yesterday and put up a new $200 garage door opener to replace the 8 year-old one that is failing. I thought I had a great day because I could easily have spent a lot more. I'd say your $85 is nothing to celebrate, but it could have been a lot worse.

BTW: Back when I bought my tractor in 2001, I had a problem with a bent lift arm. I was sure I was going to have to spend big bucks on a replacement. One of the people on TBN was a NH dealer and told me about a campaign by NH to replace bent lift arms due to the metal being too soft. I called my dealer's service manager about the bent arm and he told me to bring in my arms and he would give me two new ones for free. I guess I have a history of being lucky.:)

Yea, I was quite happy with the $85 price tag. I was expecting to hear a couple of bills like everything else JD wants for my tractor.

:laughing:Well, you got me.....yes it was dumb....but you caught me....

while removing a stump, negotiating around in the woods with the TLB, I reached around and swung the BH to one side while sitting on the seat driving forward (my attention was forward also), moments later the whole tractor listed over on its side on its own.....a 1" dia sapling engaged boom cyl lever on backhoe to extend and ....OOOPS......quickly turning the engine off it ended up almost 90 degrees.....after carefull examination and righting it back over, a nice cold beer was in order:eek:

It would have made a nice pic here but it was more of an OH S#1T moment...

OTOH, got to get a good look under the Orange Beast:laughing:

Did something similar years back with a Case Backhoe. I was dumping gravel perpindictular to the highway and had the backhoe turned to the side so it didn't stick into the roadway. The boss pulled in with this truck and when I went to get more rock, I nailed the back of his cab with the knuckle of the hoe which was still turned off to the side. Made a pretty good mess of the truck.

Got the new tractor home.
When I was done playing with it drove it into garage.
Forgot to check if it would fit through the door with the ROPS up.
It should have fit by a couple inches, it did. But the first time I was going to drive in real slow to double check, I got lucky.
Seems like the older I get the more I forget.

Welcome to the club. What drives me nuts the most is when I'm talking with someone and I go to tell them about something I've dealt with for years and I forget the name of the item and the name should pop right out. IE: telling someone about TBN and the name escapes me.

I just put 4 hrs. on the BH, first time I ever used one. Expected to do something. But, I was careful, on steep ground, no less. The front of the tractor did come up off the ground a few times while driving back up to the house which made me pucker a few times:).

Last week. Removed the backhoe and installed the bushog. Did not ensure the lift arms would clear the backhoe subframe. Well I did not have the bushog centered and when I lifted the unit it swung over to one side. As I continued to lift the lift arm caught under the backhoe subframe and bent. I removed used a hammer and one of many rocks nearby and straightened it. Luckly no parts broke.

Yes, well new as of 5-7-10, 30 hrs on it so far.....when the tractor was rolling over the BH arm was streched out straight and swung around to my left as I was in the drivers seat.....I was only going to move it a couple feet when a sapling moved the control lever....and VIOLA....instant flip....

Quite exciting to say the least....pride was the only thing hurt here:ashamed:
