Anyone else get an email from Handler\'s Equipment?

I received an unsolicited email this morning from Handler's Equipment this morning about a Yanmar Tractor. Im wondering if anyone else got this as well?

My fear is that someone has gone through the TBN personal profiles and generated a mailing list. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

That happened not too long ago, so it's not impossible if someone is willing to spend the time. Bots can't get the names, though, because the profile pages are dynamic.

If other members report that they got the same message, I can look into it further.

Not from Handler's but I got a call from a "Septic Helper 2000" seller on the weekend and now I am wondering the same thing about the company using TBN user profiles to target sales. Hints like living on a farm may indicate to their rocket scientist research department that we are likely to have a septic tank /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I did have a chance to find out none of my close neighbours had been contacted.
After their call I had the good sense to search on TBN for comments on their product - sounds like another batch of snake oil to me - so I told them not to send it. We'll see how persitent they become.

I guess this is just a risk of being involved with the best board on the web IMHO!!

Hmmm..
If some enterprising person in the sales department at "Septic Helper 2000" (or anywhere else) did a search of TBN for any mention of their product and then went to the profile of everyone who posted in the associated threads and looked up the e-mail addresses they would end up with a mailing list of people who by their participation in the discussion have expressed an "active interest" in their product - making them prime marketing candidates.

A lot of work, yes but if I were an "enterprising salesman" (which I am most definitely NOT) I might consider it.

I'm not sure I would read too much into the Septic Helper calls. They have been calling me for years, long before I ever joined this forum. They have been perstistent too..they keep calling.
