in float mine sometime will do this - like pushing pushing snow - the front end will ride up and the FEL stick will pop out of float, seems like it has some type of override kickout? when it does this i just stop back up, put in float again and keep going. btw, i'm riding a JD 4720.

Trying to put it simply with out getting out the whiteboard to draw it all up, when you apply forward motion pressure to the loader arms it applys an equal and opposite pressure back

I love when Newton makes his way into TBN.

My tractor is a Mahindra but I believe most joysticks operate the same. It's simply a matter of the float detent getting a little sloppy and allowing some of the fluid to start bypassing in the spool to the down position. When this happens on mine I replace the two balls & springs in the float detent and all is well again until they get some wear on them again. Holding the joystick up into the float position fully with your hand will stop the problem but that ties that hand up and is very inconvenient. When mine gets sloppy enough, I can put the stick into float and with the tractor parked and bucket flat on the ground and running it will slowly start picking the front wheels off the ground if I leave it there running long enough.

What the OP describes is normal, not a valve malfunction.
The FEL float function has it's uses, but for me pushing heavy stuff usually isn't one of them. As others have noted, it's great for backdragging. It's also very useful going forward if you want to skim a light layer of something off a hard surface, but once the bucket meets any resistance to forward motion it will start lifting the front end.

I agree with ya all that it's not a problem with the valve. My 933 Cat. does it, my TC40 New Holland does it, the next door neighbors J.D. does it and if I had a loader on my Kubota, it would do it. Can't be that all those valves are bad. Just have to learn when and when not to float when it contact with the ground.

Happy pushing and have a great day,

Glad you asked this, it was happening to me (a new tractor owner) and wasn't sure if there was something wrong. Thanks, now I know there is nothing wrong.:thumbsup:

I posted this in response to a similar issue that concerned a BX. The principal is the same tho.

That drawing is very 'telling'.

Yup + 5 +6 or whatever
No hydrolics involved. The bucket is digging down and the tractor is trying to drive over the loader.

+18... my M-F 2310 will do the same thing. When that happens, I take it out of float and raise it just a bit.

Also helps to ensure that the FEL isn't tipped downward --even a bit-- such that it'll dig in on its own.
