Ya, and I live in Montana with plenty of tractors and there is zero dirty air

Tractors ain’t the problem, packed cities are
LOL the winds in Montana blow the dirty air a couple hundred miles east.

Coal dust was a problem but they pretty much have that taken care of, Grand father worked the mines shift boss. WV.. City carbon and smoke was a problem also. Pitts. Pa. was the worst! Now they have that cleaned up pretty much along with the Automobile emissions. I stay old school simple and easy. Keep up with Maint. and repairs and they can keep the Electronics. Major field work and Farming is understandable though! IMo.
Right. Nobody is saying wind-back the clock to days of belching black coal smoke and children working in factories. lol
But let’s chill on dumping virtually all of the regulations on truckers, farmers, manufacturers, etc.

We need to bring back industry and manufacturing, not give it all away to China.

I love how congested cities pass on all of the solutions for pollution to the people trying to grow their damn food in the uninhabited country

Like Maine adapting California emission standards?

Fortunately emissions tests didn't last long here, but they sure tried for a number of years.

I really think the DPF and SCR requirement on ag equipment is off base. Most of this equipment is used in rural areas, so the NOx is not really a contributor to ozone in the metropolitan areas. If it is, it would probably be a fraction of 1% compared to the road/highway vehicles and other contributors. Then, the act of agricultural work, tilling, plowing and other dust producing tasks greatly outweigh any PM10 particulate matter from the exhaust.

If you have a diesel engine with aftertreatment, if you use it at idle speed, it will increase the frequency of regeneration, which is very disgusting

The most irrational thing about after-processing is that they ignore diesel vehicles that often need to idle to work
I think it depends on the kind of after-processing. Most big diesels today use an after-treatment that injects fluid into the exhaust stream. They idle just fine.

I wish we had kept industry and manufacturing here, too. But we didn't. And now that we have given it away I doubt we can bring it back.
For one thing, the countries who have the industry and manufacturing today fully understand that they now have the power that used to be ours, and have no interest in repeating our mistake.

So we can't go back. Which means our future - and theirs - is going to be different from anything that has existed before. I've no idea what that means, but suspect we are all going to find out.

This would be a good time to step back, pause, and figure out a long term plan....

Well I would rather bring it back for national security's sake

The DEF injection systems on modern commercial diesel powered trucks remain issue prone and expensive to repair as well.
