The lev-O-Gauge on the dash will not read accurate unless vertical. I put mine on the ROPS. IMG_1419.JPG

I have learned that it won't read corresponding to the degree marks, but it will more finely indicate slight inclines than it would otherwise, at the expense of not having as great of a measurement range. This suits me and I understand this. I may mount one vertical with a bracket later, but the purpose of this was to know grades, not measure inclines exactly. So for the purpose of shedding water it works fine.

Not on my box blade, but I do have one on my angle blade. I do not use it to set the grade but since my tractor is rarely level, I use it to be "near" level" and which direction. I want a little bit of slope cut in. Once I get the initial grade, then I wait for the rains and finish up based on what the rains indicate. This is one I got from an RV dealer that is intended to be mounted permanently on the outside of the trailer and always exposed to the elements, so mine is too. I put it where I can see it from the seat.

I mounted one on my BH so I could level it with the stabilizers. Makes digging deep wide ditches much easier and keeps everything flat.

Mount a level to a couple of magnets or a magnetic strip. Use in in several places.

If your goal is to make a level road, I would think putting stakes in the ground on each side of the road every once in a while with elevation marks on them would be a heck of a lot more functional than a level on the box blade.
