Nice looking ponds. Have you had any time to see what the fishing is like?

Another reason for me to be thankful that I don't live and work where you are, point being some government agencies will make it virtually impossible for a landowner to do anything on their own property simply by asking a few questions, yet they will gladly accommodate you if you are willing to shell out many thousands of $ to them for permits and supposed reviews, and after that has been done everything is suddenly okay.
We don't really "own" our land here, we just pay rent to the crown to have our names added to the title - BUT we get to assume some surface rights and take on many liabilities.

It's the same here essentially, if you don't pay your taxes for 3 years where I am it is auctioned off to the highest bidder, so we really rent as well, but there is a big push in Florida where I live to either drastically cut or outright do away with property taxes and our governor is on board so I am hopeful that we might get some relief, I said to myself just a few months ago as I stood in line to write my County an $8k+ check for my property & farm taxes that I couldn't believe that I have allowed myself to be conditioned to this.

Haven't really tried more than a couple times, my side is so weedy. This was the first time last night taking the kayak out to check the other side, which is much more open.

My mom's husband did mention, their lake, they are wanting to pull out some of the 2-3# bass, to let the others grow more, and did ask if we wanted to throw stock some. These aren't dead ponds, plenty of insects and frogs, but I'm more than willing to admit, I dont fully understand the entire ecosystem

There has to be a more equitable method of financing schools, fire departments, ect… than landowner property taxes. But this seems to be the norm in the U.S.

I'm one county east of Mr Lineman, a much more rural, low income, lower service/lower tax one. They Mostly leave you alone, but through work, I have seen signs of people trying to change that.

Guy sells homemade and used fishing poles, from his trailer/van on weekends, on the side of the road. Yes, that IS illegal, no sale/solicitation/ect on state property, but i don't care. Anyways, we get sent an email from County code enforcement, to see what we can do to stop him. Yes, I get the email on Monday, I know exactly where, and choose to go out Tuesday (he normally only does this on Fri/Sat/Sun), and report back; Nope, didn't see anyone selling fishing poles in the right of way.

Without being political, I have worked in the same county as Mr Lineman. It's that one Blue county in a sea of red in N FLA. Thats not Entirely the issue, they also have over 50% of the land area that can Not be taxed; University of Florida, State/Local parks, "Florida Forever" green way properties/conservation easements, ect

BTW, I certainly am biased a bit, but I think FLa does Try to straddle a line between Cali/New England draconian regs, and completely wild west. I Dont always think it hits the mark, but in general, it does try. I do understand the reason to permit ponds, if they affect neighboring properties/drainage basins, ect. I also know that sometimes, even the smallest ammount of common sense will show it doesn't affect it, However, the rules say you need signed and sealed drainage plans, so, that's a min of $3500, plus the cost of the survey, then as-builts. So, figure $10,000...

County property taxes are a mess around the country. I once lived in a dual community area. One school district had the power plant and other taxable industries and the other district just had residential houses for a property tax base. Guess which district had the nicer schools and lower property taxes.

Since I started paying property taxes at age 21 I have been paying for county schools that I have never had a child in , I spent the money to send mine to a private Christian school to get them a better education than what our public school system offers, the farm that I bought from my grandpa has been in my family for over 100 years ( when do think we might own it?) Our roads are pot hole ridden messes, and our liberal county commissioners just keep taxing and spending, personally I'm for a consumption tax or a fair tax where everybody pays not just landowners/homeowners and do away with property taxes, the other way the more you buy the higher your taxes, buy less pay less.
