Dextron 2 or 3 I think they are up to 4 now, it is a GM auto trans fluid. Didn't you post say they suggested it? CJ

Yes they did suggest it, but as the web is full of info, and a bucket truck site they were totally against using it, sometimes too much info is no good lol

Not a case of too much info just what is correct and what is a opinion. I like to go with experience and manufacturers info. I still really wonder if the weight of the fluid would cause a 500psi pilot system not to function in 80 degree weather. I could "possibly" see if it was a 40wt gear lube but if it is a 15wt oil it should at least function but slow in a worst case. Test your pilot supply pressure going up to the bucket, see if it is switching from ground to pilot controls. CJ

ATF? I have heard hi ranger oemm fluid is mil spec 5606, but at fluid change they use atf due to cost, my neighbor has a 1976 hi ranger and uses hy tran $32 for 5 gallons

Mil spec 5606 oil is for low-temp/cold weather use...(aircraft oil)....same as Mobil Aero-HFA.......thin as water, very $$$$.......Just bought a 55 gal drum at just under $2200.

Hopefully you won't need that stuff

Shell T-22 is a bucket truck hyd oil .It is thiner than AW32 , but T-22 is too heavy for some early HI-Rangers unless it is pretty hot out side. It does not work if it is freezing out side.

Terex that now owns hi ranger told me if you use aw46, their will be slow or non movement from bucket controls, ground controls work fine, when i move bucket controls move about a 1/2" and boom raises real slow, they said the port holes were 1/4" tubing connects are real small, the bucket worked fine before hyd hose broke, and 5 gal of aw46 added, thanks for the replys, i will post reeults after flush and filter changes
