So last Monday at work I slipped on some snow / ice and "tweaked" my left knee.

It has gotten bad enough I cannot keep pressure on it for more than 10 seconds or so.

Walking is a treat. :(

I cannot stand long either.

My opposite leg / knee is getting over worked.

So...the DR is scheduling an MRI for me and will get back to me.

My question is....after the MRI will I be able to drive home, or do I need someone to drive me there and back?

As of now, I am able to hobble about and drive.

Anyone have one done before?

Thanks in advance.

Merry Christmas to you too!

I have had numerous mri's its not painful at all unless they have you laying in an uncomfortable position since it takes about 30-45 minutes to run the test. My knee was the easiest one fwtw and they don't anesthetize you or anything btw.

I had shoulder problems and I was in pure agony the whole time I had tears in my eyes it was so bad but that's the only discomfort you will feel.

It is kind of loud with all the banging it does its interesting thinking that thing is "slicing" you into little thin pieces I think anyway. good luck on the knee I feel for ya!

I've had a couple of knee MRIs. Its no big deal. The procedure won't 'fix' or 'aggravate' the situation. Its a soft tissue imaging process. It will show torn cartilage (meniscus) or ligaments (ACL). Its NOT an X-ray machine.

In my cases, only my leg up to the upper knee had to go into the chamber. I usually fall asleep 5 minutes into the procedure.

Upper (Head, etc) MRIs are not fun but a knee is a breeze. I am a bigger guy and they jammed me in the MRI machine to check my noggin. I was in the tube with my face inches away from the machine...like waking up in a casket. I think they have better (open) MRIs now

Had two MRIs on each shoulder and two on my right knee because I keep falling apart. They put headphones w/music on and I too have dozed off in there. The only pain is from laying in one position for 20 minutes or so. The shoulder was bad only because of the position they had to put me in, but nothing felt from the MRI. If you can drive there, there's no reason you can't drive home.

I've had them done on my knee's, and on my eyes. No big deal. totally non invasive. Like having an Xray, but it is a totally different technology.

The hard part for me was getting out of the office. I stayed and talked with the imaging tech each time. I find the technology very interesting. I have some exposure to scanning electron microscopes and other imaging. Really cool stuff!

The only time it will hurt is when or if you get the bill.

I use to deal with Electron Beam Recorders in a previous life, myself.....

I have had many MRI's, MRA's CT scans, etc... on my head and back. I drove home after all of them. It is non-invasive. Just like getting an X-ray. Takes a bit longer but you should feel nothing. Just lay there and relax. I usually dozed off during the ones on my head.

Sometimes they do need to inject a dye into your blood so things show up better. I had that done a couple times on my head. They didn't find anything in there!

I still drove home. No ill effects, painless and quite interesting when you get to see the results.
