Anyone get the newspaper delivered to them?

Accountable news has its place. A local newspaper's function is to report on local events and people, and keep our local governments accountable. When I see a story on TV news, the report is usually short. I can go to the local newspaper's website, and the story will almost always be more in-depth. Pretty much every TV station will have several stories a night where they say something like "Our partners at the Gopher Gulch Times report...." , and after the TV story is done, at the end, they'll say "And you can read more about this story in tomorrow's Gopher Gulch Times." That's because the Gopher Gulch Times has better reporting. The papers aren't out for a 30 second sound bite. They want the whole story and they follow up.

Internet bloggers are not accountable journalists. They are opinion writers, much like letters to the editor in a local paper.

Except our local newspaper, the Gaylord Herald Times, part of the Petoskey News-Review newspapers . It parrots the will of the local council and powers to be. It is basically an extension of the local businesses, and mainly exists to advertise for them. I can not remember when they did any type of investigative article that even mentions much of a contrary view..... Sad........

I'll have to agree with Moss more so at least with my own "local" paper.

Once reason (other than the comics) why I actually enjoy reading the local paper myself.

I don't read the local paper for national news, but what's going on in the community.

Sometimes they do their jobs too well...

I very much respected local reporter Chauncey Bailey who covered city events and never missed a council meeting... he was shot dead and it was like few cared.

We often spoke when I attended council meeting...

That little newspaper has won Michigan Newspaper of the Year for Class C weekly 23 out of the last 27 years.... probably due to biased reporting.

Yes it is a fine local paper as far as community events and sports. And it gushes over all the local businesses as much as it can. Just no editorial or investigative interest in the goings on in the county or the town. Everything is just peachy keen as far as they are concerned....

Did order a paper via postal service on Monday from my dads hometown and curious as to the time delay via delivery.

Calling my local paper about delivery times, they irritated me by telling me I have only called them twice (at that time late last week) about having the paper delivered late.

They informed me that any paper delivered after 0900 is late and I don't have to pay for it.

Well then, I called Monday and yesterday of this week, and perhaps I'll just get the paper free LOL

Keep in mind, not looking for a free paper, just would like for them to admit that rural delivery sucks for various reasons, and they have no clue what time I'll get the paper.

There comes a point when you run a business to be honest with yourself on what you can do good and what you do poorly, and don't set your customers expectations so high that they can't be met.

We used to subscribe to the paper - I kind of liked to relax at the end of the day and read it. But then more and more frequently the paper would be tossed in the ditch - a deep and steep ditch that was very, very difficult to climb in and out of. I decided I would not routinely try to tackle that ditch to get my paper so would report that to the newspaper - telling them that a paper in that ditch was a non-delivery. Every time I called they said they would add one day to the end of my subscription. Well, that did no good really, as I still did not get my paper day after day. I called repeatedly to complain - telling them that the drive way at the highway was 38 feet wide and that the delivery person ought to be able to toss the paper somewhere within that area - unless it was being tossed in the ditch on purpose. The paper kept going in the ditch and I finally just canceled making sure they knew the reason. I then received constant calls asking me to resubscribe. I am okay with reading it on-line now.
