Anyone have recent experience with VFD well pumps?

Wasn't aware of that one, since we don't have a high flow rate. Ours only cycles below 1 GPM.

I have never seen ours cycle since we replaced the original Inwell pressure tank with the leaking bladder.

I have a light that comes on when the pump is running and an easy to see pressure gauge in the house that I monitor.

You and I are probably running the same CSV-I thought it was at .5 gpm but you may be right about 1gpm. I upgraded the tank to the larger size myself-still a lot small than the pre csv bladder tank.

I considered a vfd but the added cost and complexity just didn’t seem worth it.

The CSV125 is the most common, I installed a bunch of them doing irrigation work where zones weren't sized correctly by the original installer. It's a 1 or 3 gpm bypass, depending on which version you go with. I put this one on with the 3HP pump, it's right at about 30GPM that the pressure losses get huge.

You spent the big bucks...lol

Most of my customers didn't want to spend the additional money for the CSV1A, you'd be surprised at how difficult it was to convince some of them to do it at all, given the expense of replacing a pump.

I did the plastic one initially because I installed it on my down pipe about 5' from the top, the brass one isn't really meant to be installed that way. The new one will get installed outside the hole.

Could you use PEX instead of PVC?

What size tank are you using?

Does the pump run after a toilet is flushed?

I've never worked with and I don't think this is the right application to learn on... :)

I've done irrigation work using a lit of private wells. Almost every one of them used Sch 80 PVC, some were 20 or more years old. I've never personally seen one cracked the pipe and haven't heard of it happening from anyone else. Sch 80 pipe is thick stuff, the only time I've seen any PVC prone to cracking was if it was exposed to sunlight, that's not an issue with well down pipe.

It's threaded pipe also, so there's no concern with the glued joints failing and the fittings can buffer the twisting force from the pump. The couplings will all be Sch 80 as well.
