You know the old adage, if it looks too good to be true? That applies to the Mag-wind units. I spend some time on a couple of wind boards, Mag-wind is a scam. They have no installed units and the unit would need to be 10 times the size to get the power output they are claiming.
My thoughts exactly. I have emailed them a few times with ZERO response. That is an Awesome power output for a single turbine. ( this is the too good to be true part)
One new product that IS promising and from a reputable company is the new Skystream 3.7 Wind turbine. by Southwest Wind Power. I have called for pricing of this unit and it goes for about $5,000 completely installed. It is a " Net Metering" system and no batteries but, It has the inverter buily right into it . All you need to buy is the Turbine, the tower and some wire.

I signed up for the Mag-Wind e-newsletter, and just received the attached .pdf file from them. It looks like they are getting ready to ship, with a turnkey cost under $15k, and a projected 1100 kWh/month produced per unit. Rated at 5 kW in a 28 mph wind. I would imagine that the price will come down as (or if) production ramps up.

Interesting.

All the "experts" I have spoken to tell me that mounting a wind generator on a building is a recipe for noise disaster. The vibration will make the house unlivable. I hope this is not true about this system.

This is a pic of a local property owner that had two wind turbines working at one time. North Wind was what I seem to remember .

Go to Welcome to OTHERPOWER.COM and check out their info on wind turbines. You can DIY a pretty darn good unit. They are GREAT folks and very helpful. Heck...I even stopped by when on vacation in CO and visited. Neat stuff....gonna build one some day.

I have been looking at the skystream for the last few days and it looks pretty attractive, although the price is $5k (without tower), $2300 (33')-$5K(50') towers, and local dealer will install for additional $5k. Total install price just under $13K according to local dealer. You can not install skysteam on a house, void the warranty. this size will run a typical house.
Potomac Wind Energy

This is for a system that backfeeds to your utility, and this price does not include battery backup. This unit actually shuts down if the utility goes down, per code to prevent backfeeding during an outage.

There's a strong push to get some tax incentives for these small wind generators.
