Anyone Know How to Bypass Neutral Safety Switch on JD 670?

I think if this were my situation, I would un plug the switch from the harness.
And use a meter to verify continuity through the switch in each setting it is capable of.

On a "neutral safety switch" I would presume in neutral you would have contact.
Not in neutral there would be no completed circuit.
This info should help your service provider help you decide if that switch or something else
needs attention........

But then I am only guessing............
Remember, my oppinion and $1 will get you a cup of coffee at McDonalds.

Good luck

This is on the right track.
Practice safe tractor maintenance.
Pull the right side engine compartment cover off. Put tractor In neutral, PTO (s) disengaged, when you turn on the ignition you should see the fuel flow solenoid activate and hold. If this works the neutral, PTO switches are closed. If it activates but does not hold let me know.

Turn ignition off put the tractor in gear switch ignition on if the

Turn ignition off put the tractor in gear switch ignition on. The fuel flow solenoid should not activate indicating the neutral switch is open. You ca test this in all gears just to be sure.

Put the transmission back in neutral. Test PTO by engaging. fuel flow solenoid should not activate indicating the PTO switch is open.

Note the Time Delay Module has some basic diode, resister, transistor logic which if it fails can give you symptoms of a bad switch. I think it is more likely this has a problem than the switch. I would suggest pulling apart plugs examining and rep-plugging. Corrosion could result in an open.

You may also want to review a recent thread about JD 870 engine dying when PTO engaged. Search my handle JD670. I'd give you the link but. Not sure how on my phone.

Please let me know results And please be safe.

Good luck.

.....BTW, as far as I know, neither one of those switches make any noise. They are simple push switches activated by pressure.

Some additional thoughts. Most likely the sound is fuel flow solenoid. The relays are almost undetectable unless the dash panel is open even then you need a finger on them to feel them activate. I don't think you could hear the small solenoids the TDC module without a stethoscope

If I recall this tractor has been sitting unused for a while. If you have the manual run through the safety start procedures and let me know the results. Assuming it is not starting let me know what the fuel flow solenoid is doing ( or not).

Good luck and best wishes.

Ron,

Thanks so much for all your great help. Unfortunantly I took it to a dealer after much frustration.

What they found is the new time delay module I installed was bad. They ordered a second one and it was bad also. After some discussion between the dealers service manager and John Deere they sent one that worked. After the third one tested good they also found a relay that was bad also. I ended up spending money for repairs caused by faulty new parts.

On a good note the tractor starts and runs great now and was told it should be good to go for many years. Now if I can just find a replacement front grille.

That's good news although a bit pricy I would guess. I'm very happy with my 670 and hope you will be with yours.

You might be able to find a good parts tractor out there. I've seen a couple forum posts where people were dumping 670 without front end loader because of the cost to add hydraulics and FEL.

By the way make sure to add weight and/or put fluid in the tires before doing much FEL work. I almost tipped mine on end when I first got it

Best wishes and good luck

I have a STX 38 with a john Deere 12.5 motor that I took to a repair shop 5 or 6 years ago because it was giving us problem and turned out to be trans! trans is in a box deck just hanging no blades no battery! motor was in very good running condition when all this happened!
my question is does anyone know what to disconnect so as to just start the motor to sell as running?
