Anyone know what it is?

My FIL brought this home from his sister's. It's been sitting in her garage for who knows how long. The metal is pretty thick and the thing is heavy. It looks like it could tighten down on the lip of a bucket and used to pull rocks up but that's my tractor thinking side. Also kinda looks like it might be for a log splitter to hold a log from rolling off. Thoughts? Is it worth more than scrap metal? Thanks!

Would say skidplate but there doesn't seem to be enough mounting holes in the plate to bolt to anything.
