What part of the country are you in? It looks very similar to a marsh prop system, like a go devil or something like that.

You've heard of a s**t disturber? That is what it is!
Used to stir lagoons of the stuff (also called a pond stirrer as bcp posted)

There is a pond on the property, but I'm not sure why the stirrer would have been used. I don't know much about pond management. There are supposed to be catfish in the pond. Here are a couple of pics. I'm in Dayton, TX. I just updated my profile.

At various times in the life of a pond you might have to add STUFF, such as algae killer, fertilizer, die (to keep the algae under control), ph modifier, etc. All of this stuff should be mixed somehow.
I like the pontoon idea to get over to the other side

That dock looks pretty rickety! Have you gotten up the nerve to walk out on it yet???

I did walk out on the pier one time. It held my 6'5" 250lbs, but I don't plan to chance it very much...lol The end of the pier is actually held up by and old stump! I would like to build something floating down the road, but I have a lot to keep me busy before I will have a chance to work on it.

Looks like an agitator for a manure lagoon. We had something similar but much larger on the dairy that I worked at.
