consistently 3 mph slower than radar speed at 65 mph in Toyota.
not surprised at all the speedo is a little of, considering those aftermarket wheels ....

Too many people who "Drive the speed limit" only do so part of the time... generally coinciding with places where somebody can pass.
On curves, solid lines, or when there's an oncoming vehicle they slow to 5, 10, 15or more mph under the posted limit. It's hard to match somebody's speed who can't make up their mind how fast they want to drive, so then they think you are tailgating and start slowing right down to almost nothing, then stepping on the gas when they might get passed.

All that I want to do is get from point A to B safely. If I want to play games I'll pick up a deck of cards when I get where I'm going.

US DOT states that 10% at or above 50 mph and not more than 5 mph total difference is OK. So any speedo that reads between 50 and 55 mph while the true speed is 50 mph is legal.

One thing is common among all standards - the speedo can NEVER indicate LESS than actual speed.

Most American and Japanese manufacturers are anywhere between 1 and 3 mph on the "happy" side.

The standards are set this way to ensure that a driver cannot claim that he was "fooled" by the speed while speeding. Also, it is to provide some "safety margin" for those who put bigger tires on their cars but don't bother to recalibrate the speedo

1. Yielding to someone that hasn't even entered the roundabout yet. This is a no-no and will get you in an accident. Its simple. You only yield to someone coming around to you that is already in the roundabout. Otherwise, you go. Don't stop, go. Just like turning onto a main road from a side road. Those already on the road have the right of way.
2. Not knowing where you are getting out, and trying to get out from an inside lane. This one is more difficult, because you have to know what you are doing. Best to just stay in the outside lane if you arent sure...but be warned many will expect you to be getting out of the roundabout at the next exit...
Well, I wish you'd sent me these instructions BEFORE Nevada DOT put in the roundabouts...........

You've never watched traffic from the top of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. :)
I love driving in Europe! I'd rather drive there than in Toronto.

What really gets me are the people that think they have the right to break the law. If I am at the speed limit I am not going to move over so that you can speed. Honk your horn and flash your lights will result in nothing from me. I will drive the speed limit until the lane beside me turns or slows or whatever. I am not obligated to brake or break the law so that you can speed.
You are funny. You are breaking the law by not getting over, so you are no better than the people you complain about. I always take the position that if someone is driving faster than me, there could be a reason. You don't know if someone is dying or what, just move out of the way and stop being a lawbreaker.

My friend, you have no idea of the needs of the driver behind you. I try to stay out of the left lane unless passing. If I am in the left lane for any period of time my minimum speed is 5 mph over the speed limit. If someone wants to go faster I get into the right lane as as soon as I can safely do so. However if it is a two lane road and I am being tailgated that does not go over well. I will not drive over the speed limit. All the best.

Here's an article about this...

While I agree with the points made in this article I always find this type of comment amusing

Studies have found driving the speed limit when it causes other cars to switch lanes repeatedly is actually more dangerous than speeding,
The other option for those other drivers is to reduce speed... two wrongs don't make a right. It's not uncommon for me to park in the right lane watching a group of bunched up motorists in the left lane waiting for that one cruise control motorist who is driving 1 mile over the speed of the slower traffic.

In many states it's also illegal to speed up when somebody is trying to pass you yet that's almost impossible to enforce. I admit that I am occasionally guilty of this on the interstate... when somebody has been in the passing lane by my LR bumper for several miles they always seem inclined to speed up just as we overtake a slower vehicle... just long enough to block me in. I've learned to punch the gas, pass, then pull back in to the right lane 1/2 mile down the road.

You assume that I am riding in the passing lane. Nowhere did I say that. When I need to pass someone I pass and that is where the problem starts for others. I do not pass fast enough to suite them. And I pass far enough ahead of the vehicle that when I move back to the right I do not cut them off as many of you that think you are good drivers. I am not breaking the law as I am passing I just do it at the SPEED LIMIT.

"I am better then the law" a$$holes ... the one that thinks he has the right to go as fast as they want.
I doubt you can magically divine the mental thinking of other drivers .... no one here is advocating wanton excessive speed, or driving as fast as one wants without regard to speed limits or safety.

Do I drive and sometimes exceed the speed limit? Yes. Do I drive in an unsafe manner? No. If someone is driving faster than me, regardless of what my speed is, do I move to the right to let them pass? Always. It's the safest thing I can do.

btw, in northern Nevada, school zones are 15mph. In a school zone, I always drive 15. And I slow for construction zones when workers are present. (Although fake "work zones" to promote ticket revenue do get abused by local officials.)

For several years, on US Route 95 between Walker Lake and Tonopah, NV, there was a 55-mph "work zone" that stretched for 20+ miles, almost a total straightaway across the desert floor. I drove that stretch many, many times, over a period of years. I almost never saw any workers, or work occurring, in the entire 20+ mile stretch .... except for the work of the local troopers pulling drivers over and ticketing them with tickets that collected double fine revenue from being in a "work zone".)

We nicknamed that stretch the "double douche" highway.

Not true. You are obligated by law in most, if not all states, to pass quickly. If you cannot or will not do so you are not passing legally. What you are doing is obstructing traffic and it is still illegal. Again, you don't know why the person behind you is driving fast. You don't have your location in your profile, so I cannot give you specifics for your location. I can tell you that attitudes like yours cause accidents, road rage and can inadvertently cause harm to others. If you want to enforce traffic laws, 1st learn and follow ALL of them. 2nd, become a duly sworn police officer.

Roundabouts. The basic problem with these things ....... a whole lot of folks do not know how to "handle" them. You can see this every day. They pull up to the thing - stop - scan the area - do what they think is correct.

Maybe I was behind you a while ago. I was driving the car with the Peace Sign, the Mag Wheels, and 4 on the floor. After I got by, I did re-route via Omaha ...
