I disagree on natural gas since that drives up home heating prices and is another fossil fuel along with if it is not safe to gave a gas stove in my home, why is it safe to have a generating station burning far more than my stove ever could?

Coal fired plants have their draw backs but I don’t believe abandoning them is the answer and it doesn’t jeopardize availability of natural gas for home owners and businesses for heat.

Curious on how hydrogen will play into things in the future.

I think we will have to agree to disagree.
I start up gas fired power plants weekly, and I don't understand why you think they're unsafe. No fuel is perfect, but NG seems to check the most boxes for reliability, cost and safety.

I really think the final answer is modern nuclear and gas turbines for the load swing.

I am not saying that NG isn’t safe. Just wonder why there has been discussions and push about making gas stoves illegal but then promoting NG as safe resource for generator plants. Seems like a huge contradiction to me. Granted stove top or oven does not exhaust outside like gen plant.

What if NG supplies start to run low? Will they shutter power plants or will they cut NG from the public? If the public can't use gas, will they go back to coal? I just wonder what the long term plan is.

We have a wind farm going in by us it’s due to start being built in 2027. We refused to lease but a lot of the neighbors have signed on.
It’s sad the way it has divided the community. I’m all for property rights but the wind farm will make money for those that lease and decrease property values for all the folks around the wind farm.
Lots of places popping up for sale in the area. Folks are selling before the construction starts.
One of the bigger cash crop farms in the township is just west of us which is the view we have from our family room and deck. They have signed leases and have prime locations on their place for the windmills so I’m pretty certain our view is going to become windmills.
We figured we would be here till we died but that may well change. I may be wrong but I just can’t see myself getting used to the sight or sound of the windmills. It’s just me and the wife in this farmhouse so even though we never planned to move downsizing may be in our future.
Nothing lasts forever and change is always happening.
A quick google search:
In many cases, landowners are asked to sign an Option Agreement at the start of a wind lease, where they could be paid between $50 and $200/acre/year. The Option Agreement would give the company an exclusive right for 2-5 years to enter into a more formal wind farm lease agreement. The developer may need this option period to secure additional leases, permits, or funding. If the company decides to move into the construction phase, then the landowner would negotiate a formal lease agreement.

That doesn't seem much revenue to allow your land to be basically destroyed and neighbors property values to decrease.

I don't have an issue with the solar, because I can't see it from the property.
NIMBY

We have people complaining about solar farms too.

The $50- 200 is just to secure an agreement that the landowner will be agreeable to a windfarm, so the planning can start. Landowners usually get $10K- $13K a year, per windmill.

This is what the foundation of a wind turbine. They are surprisingly not very deep. The concrete you see is just a working surface and not very deep. Most of these had a little ground water and had generator running 24 hours a day. Depending on soil conditions this might be the entire foundation. Others had rammed aggregate piles under them. There is also a lot copper in one of these, mostly ground wires.

Thanks for that photo Dodge man I am surprised that base is that shallow. When 400 kva power line was put in 35 -40 years ago they were augering some of them over 50’ deep to a solid base but also only 5 or 6 foot in diameter. That base there looks like 50+ feet in diameter.

The thing I would add is we are seeing a ton of solar farms added in upstate NY.
My electric bill has doubled in the last 5 years and I am not using more.
The green new deal may make money for some but it is in someways just another redistribution of wealth.
So I feel like I am buying life insurance from Jonathon @ Colonial Penn.
It only costs $9.95 but it is a policy for $1,000 more or less based on your age.
That ain't going to bury you, it's a scam taking advantage of old people using fear p*rn. And like that fear p*rn is used about pollution.
I'm 72, I remember the cars from the 60's and all that has been done to clean it up and what smog in big cities looked like.
They keep moving the goal posts and now my gas stove and car are the latest thing they want to take from me in NY.
