Went to buy a Land Pride LR36 rake and when the dealer called to order, was told it wasn't being made anymore, it was now a LR37. The only thing he could find out that was different was a location change of the hydraulics attachment point. Does anyone own one that can comment?

Also for an additional $700, I can get a rear blade assembly to replace the rake. The fold down blade that attaches to the rake is $450 and I figured for the extra $250 it would be much more substantial. The skid shoes for the blade are $200 and i will be ordering those also. One of my concerns is that switching between the two may be cumbersome. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Dave

For $700 you could buy a dedicated, lightly used blade, and not have to unbolt parts. The skid shoes are a must.

Dave, if you are going to actually use the rear blade, as in grade, make new roads etc, don't waist your money on these types of blades for your tractor. You will pretzel it and not even know it. IMO, your tractor requires this type of rear blade. Maybe your dealer will give you a deal when you purchase both the LR37 and an RBT4096. ;)

I have been looking for used for months and nothing has come up. I need a rake, rear blade and box blade and the used bigger stuff (QH cat II) never comes up that I could drive and get.

Brian,

I was trying to save a little money and thought that blade (RB3796) would be ok, but if you think I will just tear it up I won't waste the cash. I see that RBT40 comes in 108 inch width that might still cover my tracks (90") when angled. Wouldn't that be the way to go? Any idea how much these cost?

For a box blade I'm going with that EA Severe Extreme 96" we discussed earlier. Waiting for something used to come along isn't getting these jobs done!

Thanks for your help
Dave

Dave, the rake is about the best that you can buy IMO. I have seen the LR3696 in person and it is a nice rake. $2000 I was told. Now the flip down blade or any of the blade swap outs would not be HD enough to be using behind your tractor IMO. The RBT40108 would work for your tractor. Cost is going to be in the $4000 area I would guess. My RBT45108 was $3600 5 years ago with no hydraulics, but I did get the manual adjusters which are very costly it turns out. If you were to get it, I would get the tilt function of the blade with the ratchet jack only and the offset and angle functions with nothing and get aftermarket welded hydraulic cylinders for it. But then you will need another set of remotes to make use of the 4 hydraulics that you would have back there.

Don't go cheap on the implements, been there done that. :( Might just as well of flushed $1700 down the toilet. In my defense, I didn't know any better and got what the dealer recommended, what a mistake that was. Bent the $1000 rear blade the very first time that I used it, complained to the dealer and was told that I had abused it and that I was out of luck. :confused2: The rake, well, they just don't really build any rakes to be used how I use mine and it sort of turned into a cork screw. I took care of that problem, but then the hitch started to fail. One of these days I will take care of that too. :ashamed:

Good luck with whatever implements you end up with. ;)

Brian,

Ordered the Land Pride 3796 rake today, but not the add on blade. Should be here early next week.

I have called/visited 5 dealers and nobody stocks the 37/40 series of blades so I can't even look at any. None of the dealers have ever stocked them and most have never even seen one, let alone actually pulled one behind a tractor.

Most of what I would use it for is fixing drainage in fields to reroute water, landscaping, making some low areas for the ducks and maybe snow removal. The 40 series is about twice as much as the 37 but without actually seeing them it's hard to compare and justify the price.

Thanks
Dave

Dave, when I bought my RBT45108, same thing, dealer had never even seen one let alone sold one. I think that in general, most dealers really do not sell many high dollar implements. When I say that you would have problems, what you have to worry about is taking big bites which is easy to do when you have both weight and power. The rear blade that I bent up was an 8 footer and weighed 680lbs. All manual adjustments. Probably would have been a real good blade for a 50HP, 5-6000lb tractor. Back then my tractor weighed about 10k and the blade was no match for it's capabilities.

Horse power really is not the problem as much as the weight. If you have a lot of weight the tractor has so much traction that it just goes. Of course HP always helps things along. If you were able to see the 37 series next to even the 35 series let alone the 40 series you would easily see the difference and understand why the big price difference. The 40 series is twice the blade of the 37 series.

When I purchased my Land Pride rear blade, I based my decision on weight ratings, not HP ratings. Depending on how much your rig weighs, you may be able to get by with a 35 series unit, although they are not available with a 108 blade that I know of. I'm guessing that you have never seen one of these nicer blades in person? They are nice, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than any of the non fully hydraulic capable units. Really most of the hydraulic capable blades made are all pretty close in design and such.

When you order one, be sure to get the skid shoes, they can make a huge difference. ;)

Brian,

I talked with the Regional Land Pride rep and he basically told me the same as you, the 3796 blade would be OK, but the 40108 would be the way to go. It is almost twice as heavy and with hydraulics all around about three times as much. The mechanical adjusters were only $140 less than hydraulics on two of the functions, so yes those mechanical adjusters bring a good dollar.

I guess I'm old school in that if I am going to spend that kind of money, I would kind of like to lay my eyes on it first. It's like I have gone full circle.

When I was a kid, catalogs were where it was at. Sears had so many different ones and if you never saw a Herter's catalog in their hey day, you haven't really lived. We ordered tons of stuff through catalogs. Then mega stores and malls came along and put the catalog places out of business. To heck with ordering through the mail, we could go lay our greasy little hands on what we wanted and take it home that DAY! I have been trained to actually see what I was buying, especially with high ticket items. **** that's why we got away from catalogs!

With this tractor it's like I'm back in the catalog days except my "catalog" is the now the internet. I ordered the rake sight unseen and since I was in the mood I called Travis from Everything Attachments and ordered up the box blade. And no, I have never actually "seen" one of their box blades either! I'm sure I will order up a rear blade sight unseen and you can probably add a grapple to that before the end of the summer.

Thank god for this tractor forum!

Dave, are there any big AG shows within a reasonable driving distance to you? That is were I see all this stuff. I doubt that there are to many dealers that have high end implements setting on the lots for sale. No one has that kind of money to just sit there.

These blades are awesome. One of the reasons that I chose Land Pride was that they seem to offset just a bit further that some of the other guys and I didn't have to wait as long, although I would have waited just to get the increased offset. T%he other thing that I pretty much insist on is a rolled moldboard. I just don't care for the press bent ones, not that there's anything wrong with them, I just don't care for them is all

.Order the RBT40108 with skid shoes and the ratchet adjuster for the tilt. Get the 2- 3 1/2"x 16" cylinders from me, hoses from where ever. Just need to figure out what you will do for the 4th remote? Electric diverter for me. ;)

Maybe I missed something but the three way blade only needs three rear remotes. Unless you have a top and tilt running you have three to run the blade.
I will have to disagree with Brian on the tilt using the ratchet adjuster. I have the RBT 4096 with hydraulics on all three axis and I can't imagine not having it. To have to get down and manually adjust the tilt would drive me nuts. I really like being able to adjust all three axis on the fly and do so with regularity. If you can figure out how to deal with the three hydraulic cylinders get the all hydraulic blade. You will not regret it. The cost is not that much more if you are already looking at dual hydraulics.
The other thing is with your tractor you might want to look at the RBT45xxx series. Brian has one; and with your 85 hp you might want the next size up.
I really like my RBT4096. Wish you were closer you could look at it but NY to WA is a long way.

Skid shoes: yes and end plates are nice as well. I actually only use one end plate but it is nice to have. Someday I might use both but the one is really nice.
