Anyone running a 64" PTO blower on 20HP?

I have a 50" blower on a B7100 with 13 PTO HP. Hydrostatic transmission seems to be the key to making it work. As others have noted just slow down and watch the RPMs (listen to the engine)

For three years I used a 72" blower on the back of a little Ford 1710 gear tractor. The price was right and the unit worked fine as long as I kept her at PTO rpm and went slow. I sold the unit after a series of light winters and now wish I had kept it to use with my Massey 1540.

jake98...The camera is a cheap Vivitar (Vivicam 3915). I touched up the pic with Microsoft PictureIt. A lot of that snow is gone now...thanks to 4 days of unseasonably mild temps...but I'm sure there will be more to come.

I would definitely want a snowblower that is wider than my vehicle. This allows me to blow under things like my mailbox holder without snagging the mailbox on the tractor and to get over the edges of the road without tipping the tractor over.

The simple solution to heavy loads on a slightly underpowered unit is to take smaller cuts (not the full width of the snowblower) so that you don't have to slow down. Of course the first cut on the drive has to be very slow. I have a 64" blower with a 23 hp PTO and haven't had the thing labor at all.

I have the woods SS-60 on my B-7500 and it seems to handle just about every amount of snow I have used it on. I am always in low range and backing up so it just is slow!

Te key reason and best comment I have heard is the last poster talking about getting close to the mail box and also the edge of the road. Having nearly tipped my tractor over this year by getting to close to the edge of a driveway and having the rear end pull me into a drainage ditch I am all for the wider blower and also marking ditch areas!

Tom I have a 63" bervac on the back of my L2350 geared tractor so I can't creep. 21hp pto and it works just fine. being ur a hydro tranny u should have no problems at all in the wet stuff go slow.

Go get it and git-r-done

my theory is that since the tractor is a hydro, I can creep slow enough in the deep stuff to compensate for the greater width and maintain the fan tip speed.

You are exactly right. It's hard to say just how slow you will be going in any given depth of snow. But it will work just fine.

FWIW my 3320 has about 25 PTO HP and about 55" width. I run a 60" blower because I got a good deal on it used. But I would not have hesitated to get a bigger one if the price was right.
