1993 NH 2120 (the best), 1974 MF 135 (sold, but solid), 1947 Farmall A (bought, sold, bought back, sold again), 1956 MH50 lbt (sold, in 1980, darn it)
I find a 14mm nut on the front of the clutch, marked LE with three lines around the flats, like a grade three bolt. I don't want to put a wind wrench on it without knowing if it's left- or right-hand threads. I think I ought to remove it, 'cause there's sparks coming out from the engine side of the clutch and some funny smells. Darn, I just got the dumb starter replaced and 1½ hours later this clutch goes. Oh well, it's otherwise problem free.
So, anyone have a service manual or experience with this clutch? This is an early 90s Briggs 14hp Vanguard, with the electric blade clutch gone south.
Thanks in advance.
Jim

Does clutch still engage when voltage applied to it? Probably a bearing went bad allowing outer assembly to run at an angle and short coil on inside. I am thinking this works like an automobile a/c clutch right? If you can replace bearings and get it to run true again, should stop throwing sparks due to metal to metal contact or electrical short.

I agree with your diagnosis. I'm hoping for help in getting the thing apart without breaking something. Thanks, jim

Just FYI, the bolt is regular right thread. I found cooked bearings, scuffed windings on the clutch armature, etc. Too bad, but gotta be fixed.
