I've got a chance to pick up a lightly used Baumalight 3pt stump grinder for about $2500. This model with a 24" disc sells for ~$5600 new. I've got enough HP and hydraulics to run it.

A stand alone stump grinder with a 65HP engine behind it does a heck of a job. I'm wondering if I will get similar results with this one. I have several large hardwood stumps I need to grind down. Then I'll probably sell it in a year or two and try and recoop most of my money.

Anyone have any experience with one of these types of stump grinders?

I'm gonna suggest using the search function using "stump grinder" for a little reading. There are only a few members on TBN with PTO stump grinders....... according to past threads on them. The cheapest I've ever seen a PTO stump grinder for sale in these parts was $2000 (in unknown condition), so I'd say your price is very good. Heck...... if you were closer I might offer to buy it from you when you were done!. The Baumalights look at be well made, and probably the brand I'd look to buy if I were shopping for a new one. Just a guess, but I suspect you'll be content with the results of a PTO grinder..... things just aren't going to happen as fast as with the stand alone unit you had for comparison.

Gary,
I bought a Woods model TSG50 for my Kioti DK45S a year and a half ago. Paid $3100 brand new from a local dealer. I bought it to add a extra service to my land maitenence business. It does a good job and was well worth the investment. Woods also makes a larger version for 50hp pto and up model SG100. Hope this helps.

Well, I picked the grinder up for $2,000. I've ground down about 30 to 40 stumps so far and it's working like a charm. Pretty sweet alright. I wouldn't won't a cheap one or I'm sure I'd tear it up. The largest one was about 28" in diameter and about 1 foot above the ground.

Congrats on the purchase! It looks to be in nearly new condition from what I can see. It is made very similar to the Woods TSG50 that I have.

I am using a Woods TGS50( like new condition) and have did 40 hardwood stumps and have about that many to go. Has done a great job to this point, not as fast as a stand alone unit. I will(if rain ever stops) be done by Sep and putting mine up for sale for $2700.

They sure do work well! I have the Shaver SC-50 which is the same as the Woods TSG-100, I don't think I'll ever sell it!

(Not sure if you realize but this thread is from 2009, doesn't matter though, it's always nice to see more pics of stump grinders)

I also have a Shaver -- Model S25, new last year. Works great. I will never run out of stumps to grind :(

Louie,
How does your tractor do with the SC25? Does it bog down much running it? I'm at the bare minimum amount of hp for the SC50. If I was buying new I would have wound up purchasing the 25 as it would be a better fit for my tractor, however, I came across a deal I couldn't refuse so I picked up the 50. I imagine myself hanging on to the stumpgrinder for probably the rest of my life, since I see no point in selling it. Most likely I'll have a more powerful tractor over the next few yrs or so, and then I'll be able to use the stump grinder to it's potential. As of now, I have to take pretty small bites. It is a lot for my little tractor to handle, but it does handle it.
