I recently posted a question about the size of my septic leach field which was built using leach panels. I thought the question was simple but evidently it wasn't. there are 32 panels which are 8 ft long x 2 ft wide and i ft tall. This is 512 Sq ft. All of papers provided at time of installation show 1500 Sq ft of leach field. that does not compute.
I love TBN because I generally gain a lot of information and knowledge from all who participate. Most responses to the question were helpful and I appreciate each one. Having said that, I take exception to Mr. mikester's response. My wife and I love living in the country. We do not have a 5000 Sq ft house with 6 bath rooms and we are mindful about what goes down the drain in our system. His last sentence was this "And you can learn how to manage it or pay someone to do it for you".
I think those of us who contribute on TBN deserves better than that. Check out his response to my original question.
I apologize to anyone who was offended by my original question. Thanks to all and I wish for everyone a wonderful and prosperous 2019. Red Cox

Some topics tend to get folks way off the original question. Their was another thread where a guy was asking about using some store bought creosote logs at his hunting cabin. Before you knew it it turned into a debate about how to season firewood.......nothing about that from the OP. Your thread turned a bit with folks talking about designed systems, aeration etc.

I remember your septic thread and about your wife’s health issues. I hope moving or staying in your house is something that brings you and your wife some peace and brings you two closer together.

Ehh...don’t sweat it.
[Pffftt...you should see the how bad it gets on the “friendly” politics page.]
It’s the internet. Don’t take things personally. There’s going to be reasonable people and jerks. (I didn’t read the thread you referenced)
I don’t consider it a big deal if a topic gets sidetracked. So what? Often OP already has the answer or options they were looking for.
So what if discussion continues or strays. That’s what discussion do. You can always not read it.

I read it and didn't contribute because it is way out of my league, there was some good responses from people who quite obviously have a good working knowledge of the systems.
We encountered some problems when we moved into our present place because we are on sand and on an artesian system so we are not allowed to have a septic system and had to install a treatment plant (which cost about the same).
I'm sure you can sort the wheat from the chaff, I certainly didn't have any problems.

The poster the OP mentioned about wasn't even commenting on the OP's original post, but a reply from someone else in the thread.

Red, I believe you're reading way too much into what was posted on your original thread. Don't sweat it. I don't believe any negative comment was directed towards you.

The reality is when you read something, it can be construed completely differently if you were to say/hear the exact same thing that was written. Heck, I'm getting tiered of TYPING a 3 page Christmas letter and sending it out. Point being, writing (letters) isn't like it use to be when the only time you could communicate with someone not in your presence was either by telephone or writing a letter (and now with my 14 year old boy, I'm still trying to figure out snapchat on the cell phone LOL).

I wasn't around when the phone first came out, but to some extent, I believe we're experiencing the same social effect.

I've got the arches for my leach field as well, but mine are a little larger than yours. Mine are about 3' wide and 2' tall and count 5 sq ft of absorption area for every linear foot of arch. That's 1' high, 3' wide, and 1' high on the opposite side. So with 100' of arches, that would make 500 sq ft of absorption area. It looks to me like you have 6", 2', 6" for 3 sq ft per linear foot of arch, but no, your numbers still do not compute. I do not remember what you're trying to do with the field, but does the size matter? If the papers say 1500 sq ft., then it's 1500.

But, I wonder. The numbers are suspicious because the 1500 is a common septic tank size in gallons, and the 512 sq ft is the size of the arches allowing 2 sq ft of absorption per linear foot. i.e. 8x32 = 256 linear feet * 2 foot wide arch = 512 sq ft. So, maybe a 1500 gal tank and 512 sq ft leach field?

The thing a lot of folks get upset about and there just isn't much of a way around it. What I write has no inflection or intonation. You just can't read my feelings into my written words. So people apply their own feelings into the words. Often times this is not MY true feelings.

I guess, bottom line - you got to develop a thicker skin. Don't take negative comments too personally.

BTW - those things out in your drain field are called - Infiltrators. Every Health Dept on the face of this earth treats their application/use a little differently.

They are simply an alternate to 4" perforated plastic pipe. Properly installed they work well and for the two of you should last a lifetime.

As mentioned, the guy that made the comment about learning how to manage it or pay someone to manage it was replying to someone else about a different situation, not you or your situation. ;)

Hope that helps ease your concerns and you owe no one an apology for anything. :) Your posts and responses are most gentlemanly. Good luck and best wishes to you and your wife.
