What do the words "shall not be infringed" mean?

It means you don't live in Kalifornia, New York, Massachusetts, Jersey or Maryand.

Something is going to have to give, it's coming, particularly after this guy in Texas couldn't buy a AR legally and he did a face to face sale between private citizens of their state. I feel sorry for the sap who sold him that rifle, but then this is exactly why I require a DL, verification of CCW along with a bill of sale if I'm the one selling.

I thought I would open a thread to understand the AR rifle.

I have many firearms but no AR's, lots of people have them that go to the range I am a member of, I don't see the need for me to purchase one at this point. If I use a rifle for some reason I use a bolt action rifle.

A few questions for people that have them.

1. Why did you purchase it?
2. Other than capacity what advantages do they have as opposed to a semi automatic traditional rifle?
3. Did you build you're rifle or buy it complete?
4. What caliber did you purchase and why?
5. Is the SW sport 2 Magpul MOE M-LOK a decent firearm?

I would buy one if there is something I'm missing that is important to me but so far I'm not seeing it.
I toured Windam Weaponry, pretty neat place..

I hope this stays an educational thread..

Getting back on topic, if you want one, NOW is the time to buy one.

Absolute worst case to save on money now, at least buy a lower, either complete or stripped (and build it later). The lower is the section serialized and requires a FFL if bought at a gun store or is shipped across state lines. Generally speaking, it's the lowers that go through the roof in price when the gun scares happen. You can always buy an upper direct from a manufacturer, and they can ship straight to your home, no paperwork.

Worst case, later on, spend money on a decent trigger. You'll be amazed at how much it shoots from a sub $700 AR priced rifle (new) from my own personal experience.

First I never said I think it is ok. Second they are already infringed. And it's going to get worse. A little at a time. And no I aam not happy about it.

County 911 just called. Township police have reported an infringement of rights. (I'd woke to sirens and a call from a friend already)

A white male ~30 YO wearing a camo jacket over a gray hoodie just infringed the right of a local store cashier to keep the store's money in the cash drawer.

No ARs or AKs were involved, but I do have one for each hand if I see the guy wandering our 'block'. (3/4 x 1 1/2 mi, mostly field & woods)

I do think if they have a CCW and a DL that matches it should be allowed.

Having both match means nothing.. They both can show valid for 4-5 years, the person could do just about anything in between that time frame, how does looking at both, making sure they match make them a law abiding firearm owner? FFL is the only instant way to make sure they are not a felon..

Due to a very bad ballot measure here it's 14 days and the FFL holds the gun. If the buyer fails the check the owner must pay for and wait 14 days for another background check to get them back. I would say that is a reasonable way around that.

Here it is as simple as meeting at the FFL, going through the electronic Nicks system and 15 minutes later it's a done deal.. If they are going to fail it, they will never agree to the check in the first place..

It was like that here. Not anymore.

Just as an FYI: while it varies by state, there are states where a DL and valid concealed carry permit can be accepted by the FFL as valid verification in place of a NICS check and it has been accepted by the federal government as a suitable means of compliance to the federal laws. See: Permanent Brady Permit Chart | Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

Which honestly would make sense given security clearances don't require re-investigation for 5-10 years (depending on level)...and depending on the nature of the job requiring such clearances those individuals would be gaining access to things far more dangerous than any small arms (or potentially designing/overseeing the development of such things).

Of course, all methods of background check are only as good as the information being fed into them, and the integrity of the individuals involved -- which apparently includes law enforcement seeing as how Alabama recently fell of that list because some county sheriff were apparently breaking the law and issuing concealed carry permits without doing a NICS check. Though even if all of that are done perfectly, a background check is only an indicator of past behavior not future behavior. So really when it comes to stopping a criminal act, or defending something a quick response time makes all the difference.

The latter part of that being another reason, I have an AR (and keep a few loaded magazines right next to where it's stored). ....admittedly that may sound paranoid to some, but when others (albeit with more known visibility) in my line of work have had their names discovered on lists composed by terrorist organizations worrying about being called "paranoid" (or much of anything else) seems like a rather minor concern.

Granted that might just be my way of thinking.....

Me and the fam was up in northern ME this past weekend, me my younger son went to a couple small town stores, my son is open carrying a side arm, at one grocery store my son ask a women store clerk where stuff we wanted was, got what we wanted and left, no one batted an eye, no paranoia up there............
