The other night after I had used my MMM for a few hours I went to put on my FEL and noticed for the first time that the metal hydraulic couplers(not sure if this the correct terminology) were hot enough where I couldn't hold them for very long. I just went through my 50hr maintenance on my BX22 and the super UDT level looks good. Anyone know if this is normal... please say yes ;-) I appreciate your help!

MattNY:

This is "normal". The BX22/2200 does not use any oil cooler, and the only cooling for the HST and hydraulics is a fan that blows air over the trans housing and HST housing. Simple but not very efficient cooling. Normal hydraulic losses generate heat and when ever you "bottom out" one of the cylinders, the pump flow goes over a relief valve turning nearly all of the hydraulic energy into heat. It's a good practice to never hold a lever when a cylinder is stalled.

Given the design, hydraulic oil temps as high as 170-180 degrees are possible. The components are designed to take this, and using a hydraulic that has good high temp characteristics (like UDT/Super UDT) is recommended.

Just be careful when installing/removing the FEL or BH after running the tractor for a while. The quick disconnects get hot enough to really hurt. I keep a pair of gloves handy for those times.
