I just got a Ber-Vac 60" snow blower attachment a few weeks ago. I drained the gear oil and put in fresh, but since there isn't any window or indicator saying when its full, i just tried to fill it. I noticed as I was filling, it started to leak out a hole on the side (see attached image, i circled in green). Is this hole made so you don't overfill? Or am I missing a screw that closes that hole?

Thanks,

nick

I would expect that hole to be threaded and accept a plug. Absent any other info, that is a good fill level.

Maybe you could clean the holes and see if there are threads, if no threads then yes you have filled it. just don't ower fill.

I cleaned out the holes and it appears as though there are threads there. I will see if I can get a set screw or something to plug it up. No harm should come from that correct? My assumption is there is no way to see how full it is so they used this method way back when this was manufactured (i don't know how old but i think its pretty old). The original owner may have lost the plugs over the years.

Got same blower, need to go take a look!

Any chance you looked at your blower? I am very curious to see what someone else's blower has.

I would put a bolt or threaded plug ih the holes, but before you do, fill the case till the oil comes out like you said in the first post then put the plugs in and you should be good to go, just don't overfill.

Chances are it's a pipe thread, like 1/8" NPT. A bolt or set screw will not seal it tight.

What would you use to seal it? Anything I can get to thread in? I have to imagine that has to be sealed before using it, else oil would just leak out and debris can get it.

A pipe plug; has a square head and pipe threads, probably about 50 cents. Measure the diameter before you go to the hardware store. The named size of pipe threads is not the actual diameter. This is a stock item in the plumbing dept. most anywhere. Could use a bit of teflon tape on it but don't really need to.
