Funny how it has to be science fiction, or "conspiracies". How about strategy, or relying on the fact that most of us are too busy and ignorant as ****. I happen to live right here on the bakkan and see about 30 guys form engineers to roustabouts a day the info is much less filtered.

They also have the Three Forks hit but that will take some technology, existing technology, but increased cost so for now they go for the simple stuff and they are drilling and putting wells so fast here we actually have a weekly radio update like ESPN's basketball scores as to how many have come on line and where.

Meanwhile out here on the interstate which I drive a ton there are more huge wind power components going down the road than you can count. Huge fields go in and all you ever hear its less than 3% of the energy we need. Really? The Judith Gap system alone can power Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming...now its true we don't have any blue spots in those states and that isn't how it is distributed, but when you think about it...that is not a laughable achievement.

Long standing doctrine...use their's, then we will use ours.

We get the vast majority of our oil from Canada for around 15$ a barrel. We have most of Texas simply capped off. Verifiable and known...and no...I am not going to dig the data out for you...but here is a hint...go to college with a Wild Catter from Texas's son and figure out what you can learn.

We only get less than 9% of our oil out of the Middle East...that is not why we are there, but I truly believe our statesmen are out of date...catch the latest Cspan interview of the dude that worked in the think tanks and observed why we do what we do.

In the end, if you want to have an impact use less, walk more, put in modest alternative systems at your house that at the least can feed back into the system.

Last but not least until we get commodities traders out of food, water, and oil we will constantly be on the brink of war...or at least giving these silly bastards an excuse to bleed the blood of our your sons and daughters.

I agree with most what you said. We should keep our oil in ground for later.
I am thinking about alternative system for my house.
1.) Somebody explains me why in example wind generator is so expensive. If you compare complexity of the wind generator with a car the WG is very simple machine but it costs several time more than a car.
2.) The electrical coop we get our power from will allow connection to the grid but you have to carry at least 1 million insurance policy and all equipment have to be certified. No home made stuff. In other words they would pretty much kill the project.
3.) Added it all together 20kW WG will cost over $50000.
4.) It will take over 20 years to break even unless cost of energy dramatically increases.

Government subsidies in example for R&D expense should be given only to those companies that can supply equipment that can be paid of by energy production in reasonable number of years.

That $15 a barrel i prob just royalties.
But more importantly!,is the US gonna return the favor once Canada is bled dry?
Or are we gonna get the finger!?.:(

Come on...you know we love you:) If we don't stick together you might as well just open the veins. Was that China I say wooing you the other day?

Makes me wonder, who in the heck buried those dinosaurs so DEEP? Being an inguneer, I view "science" with suspicion... Watch out for folks that "know" where things came from... I happen to be an EE, so I am "comfortable" with "imaginary numbers" and invisible energy, but I know that even though I can "model" how stuff works, it still surprises me. "Popular" science (and theories) are "usually" disproved over time.... How could oil get so "deep" in the earth?

If the goal is to get us off of fossil fuel and to use an alternative energy, why are we saving our fossil fuel?

Dead animals get ate (recycled) on the spot either by predators, scavengers or flies( maggots) there is nothing left to turn them into oil ,can't make oil from bone;)

Me thinks oil is made continuesly by natural process deep in the bowels of the earth and will never run out.
They found old abandoned wells misteriously fill back up again.
