I'm not a tractor snob, but sometimes my wife accuses of me of being a tractor slob (that wonderful mix of diesel, grease and dirt on old jeans.)

I have been thinking about how I was going to reply to this thread since I saw it posted yesterday afternoon.

I have a problem doing business with a country that is still killing its people if they try to leave. China has deep ties with North Korea. They are both a high risk to us and are in no way deserving of the enterprize that we are giving them. I realize that it is hard to buy anything that is manufactured or assembled here, but I do think that I should try to do what I can. I am not trying to run down the fine folks here that have bought a china made tractor, but the Govt. of China needs to change and not be rewarded for their evil ways. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif As for the folks who are on the edge of getting one, please think about who and where the money trail goes back to. I do understand that some of our country men and women cannot aford the higher price of the major brands and I just hope that they can find a better deal on a used tractor that is not Chinease. I'm not concerned about the brand, but I am concerned about the support and the service and the dealer. I don't want a brand that does not control its dealers, that does not require them to invest in adequate parts inventory or does not train/certify the repair technicians. Sorry, but I don't want to buy a tractor from a dealer that just set up shop, has not been around for decade and has not invested himself in the community. I don't want a roadside trailer dealership that couldn't honor a warranty even if they wanted to.

I want a brand that will pull its tractors off the dealer's lot if the dealer fails to honor warrenty work, or fails to hire qualified repair people. I want a dealership that has trained professionals ready to repair my machine, I want a dealership that has mobile service trucks to repair a tractor on my property, I want a dealership with full service repair bays and a depth of knowledge that can sell me what I need, repair it if it breaks, and take care of my needs on other issues beyond just the tractor.

Sure I'm a tractor snob. I admit it. I don't care what brand you own. I've got friends who own brands I would not. I don't look down on them for making their choice, and they are happy with their brands. But I won't buy one unless it meets my criteria of having all that I previously mentioned.

You do what you want. You buy what you want.

I choose to buy only a brand that requires a high level of compliance with high standards. I'm a snob. So be it. This is America, I'm allowed to be.

[rant]Think of it this way, if a company based right here in the good ole USA was selling products less expensively than all of its competitors because it paid its employees meager wages and held them captive from trying to change jobs, would you buy that company's products? In this country (and in many others) we have laws that protect workers. I have no problem buying a tractor or anything else from a foreign country that competes on a level playing field. I think it makes perfects sense for us, however, to "discriminate" against countries that don't compete fairly. Not because I don't think it's just as important for Chinese workers to have jobs as American workers. Quite the opposite. The Chinese factory worker has a family to feed just like the American worker. However, if we buy products from a regime that is exploiting the workers in the long run we're doing no favors to the Chinese worker and, who knows, if we continue strengthening that regime it may not be long before we're living under the same conditions.[/rant]

I was a snob before I bought my tractor, I would only consider NH, Kubota, MF or JD. I couldn't afford to get what I wanted in those brands so I was a snob w/o a tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Then Jinman suggested Kioti and a few other brands, took a look and the rest is history. Now if you don't own a Kioti you're just not cool and your tractor is bad!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
That last line is a joke, do not salivate, panic or burst a blood vessel!! I'm just grateful to have a tractor, never in my dreams did I think I'd own land and a tractor before I was too old to use them. The best tractor is the one you own and love and the very best tractor is paid for. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well said! This is pretty much my decision critera with the tie breaker being the amount of American Employment by the Manufacturer.

I have witnessed this first hand in other countrys.

SNOB- ME ? Darn right I am, Quality is everything ,I cant stand junk!
