Yes, TomSeller, I also feel that such a statement deserves a explanation.

Why do I need to explain it? You can read it yourself.

I just turned 66 years old and am facing a number of medical issues that lead me to wonder: Would I have been better off taking a laid-back attitude and letting others do things that I had the capabilities of doing? Should I have been better off loafing around, or enjoying myself collecting tools and materials and heading off to the next project at work or the job at home? I have to wonder if my priorities were wrong. Thank you for your input.

The nice part of retirement is having the time to fix things correctly and permanently. No more bandaid fixes.

How about you explain why you say the OP misinterpreted the post?
Well... without making a mountain out of a mole hole. Moss posted what I believed to be a light hearted quip with a 'wink' to go with it. OP says Moss belittled him. Moss responded and clearly pointed out that was in no way intentional and didn't understand how. Many others chimed in with same thought. OP failed to explain and ridiculed Moss for not answering his questions (I didn't know this was grounds). But I guess you are the one who understands?

My dad never had a repairman on our property that I can ever remember and he raised me to be pretty much the same. Though there are many things now days that I just won't do. I am happy to be able to do probably 95% of the repairs on my property.

I will say this and maybe you guys have noticed it too.... STUFF IS JUNK THESE DAYS! Nothing holds up worth a crap. You can't hardly get over 5 years out of an appliance and they are now mostly throw away. All the new stuff with engines if you leave gas in it over 4 months it messes the engine up.. even with stabile.. just crap I say!

I have to fix the tool that I need to fix the mower in order to get my yard mowed!

I don't know the answer to OP's question of if it's worth it, but I see the same things and it makes me wonder.
I occasionally look on my wifes Facebook (I don't have one) and see women doting on husbands that just bought a kreg jig and complete a woodworking project a 5th grader would be proud of.
Or they are happy because hubby took their car in for service (come on, do it yourself)
While I'm doing absolutely everything to house and cars myself with exception of replacing 50 square roof, seamless gutters or pumping septic tank.

Pumping my septic tank I could do. Climbing into it to inspect it is priceless.

At 70 years old I am hiring more and more help to do things that I would have done myself 20 years ago. However, knowing how is still handy. I find myself supervising young guys who do it for a living but have never had anyone teach them how to do things. If it's not cookie cutter house framing, they are lost. They have no clue about figuring rafter sizing based on roof loading. They have no idea that using teflon tape on a plastic threaded fitting is a bad idea, or why.

Okay I want to learn (even at my 59 yrs) why not on plastic fittings?
