Perhaps I am a minority here, but I rate my trash removal company a solid 9 on the traditional 1-10 scale. This morning they emailed me about an issue regarding an expired credit card, I contacted them and they realized the error was theirs and promptly resolved the issue and gave me a free week's credit (well, $4 saved is $4 earned) for the mistake. I have nothing but praise for the service they deliver, they are ALWAYS on time, pick up stuff outside the container (within reason) for free, and if service will be delayed because of a holiday they ALWAYS notify me several days prior to the delay. And if I think about it, in 20 years of using their service, they have NEVER missed a pickup for any reason, weather related or not, which is a lot more than I can say for my mail and newspaper delivery services. To sweeten the deal, the same company offers a huge, lighted, open-24-hours-7-days-a-week-365-days-per-year recycling center only 6 miles from my house, and it's for the general public and not just trash collection services customers. The only other way I can legally dispose of my trash is to drive 14 miles one way and pay $2 a bag to dump at a landfill. What a no-brainer.

So, how do you rate the service you use, if any?

Bill - I have to tell you something funny , my whole family laughs about it....Today is Tuesday and I will wheel our trash can down to the road....I do it on Tue. because our garbage company comes so early on Wed. sometimes and Wed. is our pick up day....Funny thing is most of the time another garbage company will pick up our garbage since it is out on the curb on Tuesday...as they are making their rounds...they must not know exactly who their customers are and only look for the garbage cans that are out...So it has become a joke..so far 5 different compaines have picked up our trash...I am convinced I could cancel our service and just roll the container out there every Tue and some company would pick it up.....

They charge too much up here. 90.00 a month for two cans a week.

I'd rate ours pretty high. Only complaint is the occasional trash bin blown over and down in the ditch, which is probably not their fault anyway. I think ours is about $18 a month and they will empty extra cans if I leave them out.

No notice about holidays, we just figure that pick ups that fall on a major holiday will be made a day late, that seems to always be the case.

We looked around and it was ~$40/month for a regular trash can with weekly pickup or $43/month for a 2 yard dumpster with pickup every other week. Needless to say, we have a dumpster and love not having to roll the can out to the curb.
Only complaint was that one month they missed that my wife had paid online and sent us a bill for 2 months the next month.

Please no trash service here. Couldn't justify owning a truck if we had trash pickup. About once a quarter, I drive to the local landfill. The best thing about our landfill is most the workers are retired military, I'm retired military and we take care of each other.

We've had a couple of good local trash companies that charge reasonable fees, but IESI buys them out after about 6 months and the rates go back up. IESI is good at changing days and having breakdowns that cause them to be delayed. Every time they change pickup days, it's always 10 days between pickups and they don't give any credit. They are the only company around a they know it. When they increased the fees to $50 a month for one 65 gal container per week, we decided it was time to say goodbye. I now haul our trash to the local drop-site. They charge us only $1 for a 30-gal bag. Some weeks, I don't even go due to low trash. Even with fuel, I'm way ahead of what IESI charges. The nice thing about our drop-site is they take tires, appliances, metal, and almost anything except paint, chemicals, and batteries. I just hauled 6 old fans, 3 vacuums, and a TV from my brothers shed to help him out. I took two bags of trash and the total charge was $6. I'm the best trash hauler I ever had.:D

I am my trash hauler - and recycler of paper, glass, cardboard, metal and used oil. And I have no complaints. Living in the suburbs for years, I used several trash outfits, and always had the most luck with ones with just a single truck and two employees - one usually the owner. They would come to the back of my house for the cans, and charge less than the big guys.

Now I just load up my truck with the bags and boxes and head the mile and a half to the landfill. I'm usually home in a half hour or so. I spend more time sorting recycling than anything else. And I retain all my aluminum cans. I have almost 200 pounds out behind the shed. Plan to sell them some time soon.

I'm very happy with our trash service. It is $150 a year and is paid on the real estate tax bill so no monthly bills.
